  • No VAR in Championship next season!

Clubs have overwhelmingly voted NOT to have video interference next season. I'm so happy!

Also, the issue is unlikely to be revisited in the foreseeable future.

Absolutely fantastic - I was reluctantly leaning towards abandoning going if that nonsense came in.

I know what you mean. But we'll still have VAR in another sense:

    Very Abysmal Referees!

Just like the one who gave a non-penalty tonight.

I believe that the offside rule needs to change to make VAR more palatable anyway: IMHO VAR offsides should be evaluated by foot positions rather than the length of forward's nasal hairs. After all this is "foot-ball" right? The only problem with that I guess is that would be nigh impossible to judge in real time games without VAR.

I'd take #### happens over VAR all day, anyday.

The decision above was a huge error by the officials but a future full of microscopic analysis and re-analysis of a dozen incidents per match, while everyone scratches their arses wondering whether to jump or sulk, just isn't worth the price.

There's nothing wrong with the offside rule as written, it's entirely in the implementation and it should be by human in the moment and at the moment. Accept the errors in exchange for the joy of the flow; football is not rugby union, cricket or tennis.

I've never been to a game with VAR in 50+ years - I'm VERY comfortable with continuing to take the rough with the smooth..

Rather than fiddling with rules, I'd rather focus on teaching our players not to bundle into the back of an opponent going nowhere or place their hand anywhere on the body of an opponent in open play.

Watching players like Smyth and Mbengue giving away umpteen mindless free kicks every week is depressing. We need to learn to "play' the rules and refs to our advantage.
