  • Pompey revisited

I just watched the Pompey manager's post match interview. He may well get the shove but he came across as very articulate and level headed. He did take them up and kept them up. A lot of their fans blame a lack of investment to consolidate their promotion. I think whatever transpires there is a decent manager there who will do well elsewhere.
The result did flatter us. They had plenty of chances and the game could have gone anywhere and failure to take chances is not the manager's fault and he did accept his share of responsibility.

p.s Does John Swift ever stop scoring against us?

I don't think there was anything fundamentally wrong with their efforts, just one of those days. But, they're on the slide and can't afford to have "one of those days" or "a bad day at the office". I was surprised how quickly their fans turned on the team, they went toxic after our second goal but I guess they were already seething due to their current form. Also, most fans regard us as pushovers and a soft-touch so getting battered by us really gets under their skin.

I'd rather Leicester and/or WBA went down than Pompey but they'll need to pull their finger out or they will be heading down.

Thanks for your response, On their fans blog, their guys were saying what made things worse was to have such a poor team put six past hem. especially after good away results at Charlton and Millwall.

I don't think Pompey fans should be using that result to fire their anger - which sounds a weird thing to say about an apparent hammering. Even the BBC website, with its Premier League #### kissing focus, had that game quite high up the page with the headline "6 Touches In The Box, Six Goals." It was a freak result in many ways and, on the opposite of things, we should enjoy it but certainly not get carried away that this is some kind of rebirth.

From the outside I think John Mousinho is doing a decent job in getting Pompey promoted and then keeping them up in the first season back. If he manages it for a second season then an even better job considering the financial imbalances in the league.

Mouisho is linked to the Bristol City job next season.

That explains why he seemed fairly relaxed in the interview

Championship is a merry-go-round for managers, lucky to get a whole season and completing a whole second season in situ must be incredibly rare now.
Yes, there will be outliers like McKenna and Parkinson but they are right time, right place... the minute Ipswich or Wrexham stall they'll get the boot.
Doesn't bother me, it's more about the set-up and hierarchy of coaches and physios plus the COO/ CEO/DOF (or whoever leads the recruitment) than "the manager" nowadays.

Hopefully they will stay up , they beat Millwall home and away so just shows they have a fight in them .
As said it was a freak result and they were the better team for large parts
