Should we perhaps consider

a back three with Jimmy and Varane protecting in front, 2 wing backs Morgan./Smyth and Vale /Brazilian kid?
Would Madsen be a better no. 10 with the striker with 2/3 Chair/Djenbele making up the midfield?
You may laugh but Madsen said he liked that role and had played it and was not his away goal at Boro? from the advanced position?

I like players to play where they are best— surprise being Morgan at rb. Back 4 play with a proper left footed player . I think our defensive problems comes from some of that front 3 being poor at tracking back 100% . If they got it so easy going forward we’d be laughing. I like field in front of back 4 but he is more restricted in his tippy tappy play. He has a great engine to get forward but needs to practice shooting. In my head I have a few missed v good chances end last season and this. His heading in both boxes is important especially without jimmy. He’s a big player at corners both ends so no need to panic yet. On corners dembele seems restricted / overruled by chair and needs to take more of his vicious inswingers. Kone looks like a striker with proper movt! So I’m optimistic things will turn v soon.

The formation will largely depend on where we are when the window closes.

if we get the Eze money, I would try and get Ronnie Edward’s back.

He could easily be a £15 million plus player in 2 or 3 years, problem is, Southampton probably know that too.
