But how many defenders have we got? We should have 8 but given JCS and Morrison have questionable fitness records we probably need 9. I'm not au fait with the kids or dev squad but based on Heverton and Kakay and Hammaleinen I wouldn't get my hopes up that the pipeline is rich with quality.
Basically we are chronically short of defenders so we have to be talking to Fox irrespective of his limitations. My guess is it'd be a modest contract that he might be minded to accept to maintain a stable home/family life. I don't think he's as bad as people suggest - plenty of instances of Paal and Dunne getting turned inside out and looking like Bambi on ice but folks see what they want to see to suit their narrative. Fox is calm, experienced and by far the most vocal member of an otherwise worryingly quiet back line. Right now it's virtually beggars can't be choosers with Fox. Fair do's, if the club manage to bring in three or four better defenders in next couple of months, Fox would become superfluous.
