Given the injury record of Frey and Kolli I'd say we need 2 or 3 back up strikers. Plus who knows, the next gaffer might be a dinosaur who actually likes attacking and plays 4-4-2, 4-4-3 or, hold on to your hat now, 4-2-4!

Good point re: injuries.

But Im confident we'll be trying to play total football on pennies! But two up front would be fantastic.....Allen & Goddard style!

League goals.

Kelman had 117 shots on goal, scored 23. Roughly 1 goal per 5 chances. Good return.

Frey had 43 shots on goal, scored 8. Roughly 1 goal per 5 chances. Good return.

Kelman 3,605 minutes Frey 1,788 minutes, Frey didn't get enough chances. We don't create enough. Should have had around 60 chances.

Paul Symth, 44 shots, 1 goal. Expected goals 3. Saito wasn't better, 38 shots for 3 goals.

IMO, several players in our team shoot from anywhere, waste possession. More crosses, less wild shots.

If we keep Kelman, give him a chance, on the pitch, create chances.

Remember Conor Washington had one great goal scoring season then spent rest of his career struggling to hit the proverbial barn door!

Prior to this season Kelman has shown little to suggest he could produce at this level. However can't ignore how effective he has been this season and if he wasn't our player and we got chance to sign him we would be delighted. Seems a no brainer with only issue being his short contract. Club needs to make a decision quickly and then if they decide to give him a go get him on a longer contract if he will sign it.

Stating the obvious but our team struggles in front of goal. We play with one striker but none of our non-strikers are prolific. The example of Saito and Smyth above a good one. Will run all day and can be effective but unlikely to score many. Chair probably best and he has never scored double figures. If we are going to persist with one striker we need one who can put the ball in the back of the net and we need to make the chances for him. We aren't actually that great at creating chances either! Was reading other day Orient have similar set up to us.

Like Frey but his game time needs managing. Celar unproven in Championship, had decent few games after long barren run then got injured. Kolli's goal next season has to be to start a lot more games and then show he can score regularly, at present shown some real promise but yet to prove his goal scoring prowess. Lloyd useful against tired legs but best thing would be season long loan to sharpen him up and see if he can step up, as per Kelman really.

We don't have money to spend more than about 10p on a striker so would be foolish to look a gift horse in the mouth. Stick him in and spend part of summer training squad into creating better clear cut chances for all our strikers.

This reminded me of Stuart Wardley, our goalscoring midfielder / furniture removal man who joined us from non league - he had one prolific goal scoring season if I remember correctly.

I hadn't thought of him for 20 odd years, then suddenly he sprang into mind when I read your post!

Kelman has proven his worth at L1 level, so sign him up for another 3yrs and if it doesn't work out at championship level, there will be plenty of L1 clubs wanting to buy/loan him from us. Low risk signing because he'll be on average Championship wages because he's not proven at that level. About £7k a week seems about right.

As said Lloyd , kolli ,celar and Frey hardly frighten defence's.
Give kelman a pre season and see if he's a fit .

I tried watching L1 playoff final but only made it to half-time cos it was a dull watch. Was 1-0 to Charlton when I bailed out and that was final score.

Kelman was an anonymous peripheral figure that half I watched. It struck me that was exactly what he'd be like in a struggling Championship side that provided shite service to its strikers.

But beyond that he looked slow and immobile. He was not "bothering" the centre backs or putting himself about, didnt appear to be making runs to create space and didnt even compete for any long punts his way. Based on today I'd say he would be behind even Alfie Lloyd in our pecking order.

We could loan him out for final year of his contract and release him next May but surely it would be better to cash-in now by flogging him for cash or as a make-weight in a deal for a hot L1 fullback?
