Agree about keeping feet on ground but aside from making the four loan signings permanent where we have made real progress IMHO this close season is getting much more depth into the squad. Obvs we can't replace Deng, Dickie, Stef, Charlie etc with someone of equal quality but we now have decent alternatives in every single position and in lots of positions (wing backs, midfield especially) we have real competition. Depending on injuries/ who we send on loan we will even have stiff competition to get on the bench- which is great progress.

We have to stick behind the team no matter what this season, it could mean getting those extra points.Originally posted by BusRider View Post
Yup. We can put together a starting 11 who can be real contenders, but a couple of injuries to key players and we could be feeling a bit deflated. On the other hand a lack of great players past the starting 11 is a problem most of the championship has so I am still optimistic. Not many have massive quality waiting to step in like prem clubs have, most of the championship is in the same boat us us except maybe 5,6,7 clubs including the recently relegated ones who can afford to keep deeper squads.
Remember we still have loan signings if we wanted?

The youngsters we have who are keen and slightly less long in the tooth than Bonne, who rightly has opted for first team football. Takes courage, but also great desire to play football to drop down a league. We’ll be fine as we have goals across the team and look after the rolls Royce well. last season with us is probably the longest run he’s had without injury. Folk are getting over excited and expecting the world. Squad is great, but if we’re as unlucky with injuries this season as we were lucky last, then it could be a deflating season for some. They’ll all be back on here moaning before long. Staff from top to bottom are doing a great job. We’re a proper outfit with proper potential stars coming through. Just on that, Bettache had a different attitude in his cameo the other day. He’s got ability, but has always looked like a rabbit in the headlights when played. The other day he looked like a player scared of being squeezed and was trying to prove a point in his 15 mins. He pulled the game back in our favour with some great runs and started to take the game by the scruff. If that continues that’s another reason to be optimistic, whilst keeping your feet on the ever ( but exciting) unsteady ground. U RrrssOriginally posted by MYU View Post

Never understand why most clubs do their business in last week of the window and especially on the last day or at the very last minute possible. Seems mad way of doing business and we done almost everything very early and before our preseason also which clearly in a normal world of operating makes total sense ie bed in the new players with their new team mates.Originally posted by stanistheman View Post
Well done to all for getting the players signed before the Pre season games have all been played. Now thee is no excuse to say they need to gel (4 of them were on loan 2md half of last season). The others are mostly back up.
I am optimistic that we can go on to have a top 6 season from start to finish with this squad and manager/coach team.
We will have some off days and January could cause a few goalkeeping issues when Dieng goes to play in the African Cup of Nations, but we should have a lot more good days than bad.
Or do Sky give all clubs a backhander to do most their business on this mythical "TRANSFER DEADLINE DAY" and seen as the main man on that day was Mr RedKrapp then the possibilities of a bung - clearly that assumption is preposterous in the extreme !!!!!!!!!

Business has been conducted early, we’ve got the signings the club (and the fans) have wanted, before the first game of the season which makes a real change. The signings we have made have been excellent the back half of last season, so why not be a little bit excited about the season ahead. Hell, as R’s fans all we do is live off hope, so myself I’m bang up for this season, any team in front of us we can beat, with the team we have 3 points is something that’s achievable, and believe me I wouldn’t of said that in past years. Let’s enjoy this squad of players, and the manager, and come May next year see where we are, OB.

It’s the model , buy cheap , sell high , it has to happen to keep progressing, we’ve only really managed to do it with Eze so far regarding getting a good fee . The contract lengths of our players now should command better fees in future. We seem to have put plans in place already with the likes of Dunne , Bettache , Dozell etc. ready to step in .Enjoy these players while you can .
or Eus!

Agree , I don’t see us holding onto the likes of Dickie, Chair , Dieng , Willock etc. beyond next season but that’s fine as long as the likes of Dozell , Bettache etc. Can step into their place .

I feel very optimistic, but I hope the club have planned for not being promoted this season as well. Like every other club in this division, we got to have our house in order economically..
