  • Our wage bill for next season......

    https://www.skysports.com/amp/footba...been-contacted

This article states that TF wants to trim our wage bill from 31 million pounds per year which is apparently below average for a championship team to just 11 million.

Our squad right now is hardly full over paid talent and to trim off 20 million we must be looking to not only get rid of prize assets but we will be replacing them imo with lower league players if this story is true.

A 22 man squad at 11 million per year would mean we will probably be offering wages of 8-10k per week and we will struggle to compete for signings.

We seem to be gearing up for a very tough 2019/2020 season.

The TOTAL wage bill for 17/18 was £30 million. That includes all scouts, coaches, physios etc. Estimations for such staff is approx 5m of that. So 25m is playing staff. I believe senior management is a separate line item in the accounts and not inclusive of the 30m figure.

(We have around 140 staff on the books so removing 40 odd players we have 100 non-playing salaries to pay. Simple maths at average of 50k a year = 5m per annum)

This season 18/19 we will see a reduction of around 8m off the wage bill according to previoustly posted calculations, which will become clear in accounts when posted. So playing staff = 25m-8m = 17m.

The next season coming up 19/20, we will likely see a further reduction of 3m off the wage bill (Lynch, Cousins, Bidwell, and Pav all averaging 15k per week = 3.12m per year). So, 17m-3m = 14m for season 19/20.

Still leaves 3m gap. But 11m playing budget may not sound as far fetched as it seems. Or more likely, the 11m is a reduction in wage bill and sky reported it wrong (8m off from this season, and 3m off going into next, as noted above, = 11m figure)

That's a good saving on getting rid of Lynch, cousins and bidwell. Most on here think they're rubbish players so no harm done. Any player can do what they do.

Wouldn't be surprised if our wage bill is above average for a team without parachute payments. Teams like Preston have a wage bill of £14m p.a. and Bolton don't have one.

How in the hell are we currently spending £30 bleeding million quid on this current shower of shyte?! Just how many in that squad do we have on over 20k per week (which would work out at just over a million for a years wage). You could argue freeman should be something towards that number, maybe 15k a week or thereabouts, but the rest? Wells and Hemed are probably on 20-30k with their old clubs, so depends how much we're contributing there, but my word that figure is obscene for this current squad.

And Preston are doing very well on it too.

With FFP kicking in perhaps player wages will come down naturally. I'm more than happy to live within our means and if that means getting top end L1 players and giving them a platform in the Championship so be it. If that means relegation to L1 then so be it.

What I dont want is a plan to given to one manager for it to be changed when another comes in. Let's have a strategy and bloody stick to it.

Interesting to read 40% of Derbys wage bill is spent on players who are not playing for them. They have 37 senior players on their payroll. No wonder they had to cook their books.

I wonder how much of Baps wages we are paying whilst he is at Luton?

The more you read into this the more ollie is suited to us being able to spot cheap or free players, and we need a manager whos going to be good at that.

Anyone can find a cheap player, it's getting them to perform well consistently as a team that is the step Holloway struggled with.

And when they play well not to drop them for the next few games.
