Why would that make him greedy as he would have honoured his contract and Leed's hardly paid out millions to sign him from Wealdstone.

Paul Mason - There is no way promotion from League 1 to the Championship is worth anything like 10m. Do you remember the year we lost in the League 1 play off finals, Ian Holloway was quoted as saying it was a good thing we didn't go up because the clauses in the players contracts relating to pay rises for promotion out weighed the additional revenues gained by playing in the Championship and it could have forced us into administration. I would suggest that promotion to the Championship would mean an extra 1 or 2m at best for leeds, even if they do negotiate a more preferable sponsorship deal.

In response to the original question. Beckford is worth what ever anyone deems suitable to pay for him in January. Look at Ben Watson last January, 6 months left on his contract, a few big clubs started sniffing about and all of a sudden he was worth 1.5m. Personally if I was in charge of the club I would pay anything up to around the 2m mark to sign Beckford.

That is true about QPR, but at that time we were charging next to nothing for ST's, which caused uproar when people were charged the correct price and we were averaging 15,000 out of a 19,000 capacity, which left not much room for increased revenue. Compare that with Leeds who currently average 23,527 out of a capacity of 40,204. Also, QPR had loads of debt's and Leeds don't have much,due to Ken's clever accounting a couple of seasons ago. I said they will get around 10M extra in revenue over the course of a season and if they choose to blow it all on players, that's there choice.

The new tv deals have increased the Championship's revenue take threefold since 2004. Leeds, as the biggest club in the division by some distance (even including Newcastle) would gain the lions share of the live tv picks (both BBC and Sky) and gain a minimum of £125k per game in ADDITIONAL revenue on top of the tv money distributed by the league.

That, allied to enhanced sponsorship deals, kit deals and increased corporate take and match attendances (remembering they current only utilise 59% of the capacity of Elland Road even with crowds in excess of 20k), Uncle Ken is probably not far off his £10m estimate IMO.

every player has his price, out of contract in the summer or not (we should know more then most) IE Dichio, 5hittu, Cookie, Sinclair, Impey, Ferdinand to name a few, although we are scoring goals for fun at the moment you can't have to many quality players at the club & players like Watson Taarabt Beckford & Hooper should be top of our shopping list if we are going to be serious contenders in going up, plus these players wouldn't be out of place in the premiership, whereas most of the players we have signed in the past would be, you only get what you pay for in this day and age & if that means splashing the cash on these quality players, then so be it, it would also show the missing fans that the club means business & the gates would rise, i have no doubt about that.
