It is very, very simple. You can't expect anything from a player like Smith if he doesn't get service.

There is only one way crosses can be supplied on a regular basis from danger areas: wingers. True Wing backs are a luxury you can not afford if they don't have the qualities required, and they are rare, even at the highest level. Wing backs can also expose you defensively for the same reason. You need real quality at the back to afford wbs otherwise you will be exposed, another thing we've seen at higher levels.

If we play full backs we can stick someone to play off Smith and sniff out the crumbs, and a back four is an easier coaching set up for our so called 'defence coach' to manage.

I don't trust Ollie not to keep fvcking about with personnel and systems and that will cost us.

Whilst I am not saying the players are of a good standard we won't really know until they are played in a team and formation that suits their ability. I agree with you fully that they should play in a 4-4-2. Until they are and for more than just 1 or 2 games we will not really know how capable they are.

I think Sylla is a better player than perhaps you or others think, as is Smith, but they seem to do better when crosses are put into the box but we are not seeing these often enough.
IH is too set in his ways to change his mind or take advice from others about team selection, formation and tactics as he knows best and maybe thinks of himself as a clever tactician who can outsmart his opponents, yet his record suggests that he is not.

His recent record at Millwall and QPR make very uncomfortable reading. By the time he resigned or got sacked at Millwall it was too late as they were in deep relegation trouble with just 10 games to get out of the hole he had dug them into. I just hope that LF and TF act a lot sooner than that if he doesn't start winning games soon. 2 wins 6 draws and 6 defeats from the last 14 games (many against sides in the bottom 8 - Burton, Bolton, Sunderland, Barnsley, Millwall) is relegation form.

I think we can all see we should be playing a flat back 4 with 1 or 2 wingers, not the current wingback format. Back to basics for me until results improve and then he can tinker.

Not a fan of Pawel playing full back or wing back for that matter. He's one of the best players in this league if played as a winger, so it's daft to start him elsewhere on the pitch. But as you mention Stan, plenty of good options at right back. Bidwell starts every game, and is rarely injured so should be a safe bet at left back with any one of Robison, Baptiste or Lynch as backup if required.

There is no excuse to be persevering with this 3-5-2 system. It was clear very early this season that it wasn't going to work with this group of players.

Pawel played there last week away to Preston and did a great job. Even Mackie previously did well at RB and is arguably less of a liability there. Baptise and Scowen can also play there, so we do have decent options there until Perch is back.

Stan young furlong had a good game at reading every dog has his day ! He hasn't been very good since , I can't comment on Kakay but the rest you've mentioned can play full back but not good enough at wing back , thats my gripe we don't play a flat back 4 , what I'm saying is the players are lower championship level at best that can do a job at F/B but playing 3_5 ,,is above them

To be fair to him taking your first job at a massive club in Spain's top division is probably not the wisest move, although I fully appreciate why he took the opportunity. He was on a hiding to nothing.

Language barrier, first job, not respected by the players as a manager at that point as he'd never done it, spotlight on him for obvious reasons.

Wouldn't be my first choice but I would not rule him out in the future as a decent manager if he starts in League 1 and builds a reputation & gains sufficient experience.

We're half way through the season, he should know that by now.

Glad we can agree on that at least.
