Personally I'm not a fan of 3 at the back. Never have been. I see it as a flawed system. If you play out and out pace on the wings against it, teams can get pulled all over the place.

That said, there are a few big teams making it work very well. Look at Chelsea. I'd said start of the season that no team would win the Premier League playing 3 at the back, but how wrong I was. Also Juve in the Champions League. Through to the final playing 3 at the back.

What is important though is having the right personnel. Intelligent, pacy, physical defenders, particularly in the left and right centre back positions. Pacey wing backs that know how to attack. A decent, defensively minded central midfielder (N'golo Kante), to sweep up in front of the back 3.

Our problem is we simply do not have the correct personnel to play this system. We didn't when Harry tried it and we certainly do not right now.

Redknapp bought players to play the 3 at the back system, then we got torn apart and he never used it again. Was then stuck trying to fit players like Isla into a system they werent bought for.

Another major overhaul of players is not what's needed at all.

A couple of centre halves, a full back and a striker is all that's needed.

I wouldn't give Ollie free reigns to orchestrate another overhaul in players when he's going to be out of a job by Xmas. We now need a gaffer to come in and work with this squad, not overhaul because they don't fancy a few of them.

One can wonder when it worked? 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3 sure, but 3 at the back with wing backs?

It's better to end the revolving door. Plus Ollie's payout would be substantial. Too much booting in todays society without thinking of the aftermath.

However, is Ollie the right person to stick with? I'm afraid the jury is out on that one. I maintain he can be, if he plays to his strengths and understands his limitations.

I completely agree about this.. But, if he just implement a system the players fit with and play them at correct positions I also believe it doesn't have to be that bad. The jury is out for sure but he did put himself in this mess by shifting things around far to much when he thought we'd stay up, it is normally not necessary in the Championship.

Agree with lot of what you say but unfortunately Ollie has had his day and is just a very poor manager at this level. We need a half decent one at this level and build the way you suggest.

We shouldn't need to drop down a division. We have an ok squad which with a few tweaks (as opposed to complete overhaul over two windows!) should be 6-10th next season. Only with the right manager though. With Ollie can see players wanting to leave, struggling to attract others and a relegation struggle.

Rumours say Rowett was close but finallly backed out and suddenly there were not much to chose between. Ollie fits the bill and has his heart at the right place, in the end I think it was an easy choise. But I agree, he hasn't impressed much..

We have tried the other way around as most of us know, it doesn't work as a "smaller" London club with an average of 15000 in the stands!

The "new" QPR is to buy good "no name" players from lower leagues or smaller clubs, players who see QPR as a big club compared to were they played before, wants to live in London and play for THIS club. We will also try to find 17-18-19-20-year old rejects from other bigger clubs, develop them and hopefully find one out of five that will be good enough for the first team. If correctly developed one 24-25-year old will be sold for 6-7-8 million, and all of it is financed. QPR will not be buying expensive finished players who doesn't really want to play for QPR but leaves their club anyway for a bigger paycheck. As we know this always ends in misery and often gets really expensive!

I think they will try to create a family club were youngsters can see themselves have a chance to play first team football or at least get a decent carrier somewhere else further down the league system. This will make QPR attractive for youngsters around London and it could actually work, but it will take time!

I do believe that this is how they think, and therefore IH will probably be here no matter if we drop out of the Championship or not this season. In 5 or 10 years time this might be the only model that actually works for "smaller" clubs. Maybe it is also the correct path to choose, only time will tell.


In the short run and for the start of next season, just please stop moving the players around, it is not needed in the Championship!

Derek McInnes from Aberdeen is our man.

He'd be good or robbie neilson formerly of hearts and now mk dons. Derek is a solid manager and if people judge him on what he did at bristol then they're not seeing what hes done with aberdeen
