In terms of the modern game the patience shown has been exemplary, to the point where the chairman is prepared to back the manager despite the fact that the outcome of a police inquiry involving the latter remains pending.

Who knows? And that's the point. This new approach of building slowly could take seasons. If it means success, we need to realise that there is no such thing as a quick fix and back whoever is on that field playing in the hoops.
