When Austin goes
Will the board put their hands in their pocket and go and get another top striker.
Hes been so important to us and if he leaves in the summer we aint getting no money. Will the board go and get a rhodes or Afobe?
Hope they have a plan in place for when he does move on.
Anyone aware of any decent lower league strikers that could make a step up?

Won't be easy.Charlie's scored 10 goals in 16 appearances so far this season.I might be imaganing it,but he seems to be bigger, stronger and quicker than he was last season when his record was nearer to his career average of a goal every other game, but there again, the opposition was Prem teams and not Championship.Originally posted by Hitman34 View Postof course he is not. he wants a big lump sum to sign for another club on a free. dont blame him either. i hope we have started scouting for a replacement.

Said it in another thread, this wouldve been a big issue between JFH and TF/LF at the nagotiation process for JFH getting the job. Imho the board have told JFH that they will do all they can to keep Austin but if he does move on then a significant amount of money will me made available to replace him.Originally posted by maidstone_hoop View PostWill the board put their hands in their pocket and go and get another top striker.

It's going to be so hard to replace Charlie. Wouldn't want any other striker playing for us at the moment, the blokes a flipping hero. Only striker I can think of is Rhodes but he will cost serious dough.Originally posted by maidstone_hoop View PostWill the board put their hands in their pocket and go and get another top striker.

Hope so Nick. If we are still in the championshio next season if we have any ambitions of going up we need a class striker if not two.Originally posted by Nick View PostSaid it in another thread, this wouldve been a big issue between JFH and TF/LF at the nagotiation process for JFH getting the job. not saying I disagree, but why is that a certainty?Originally posted by maidstone_hoop View PostHope so Nick. If we are still in the championshio next season if we have any ambitions of going up we need a class striker if not two.
the top sides right now dont: brighton's squad is mostly nobodys - james wilson is good but not a prolific scorer and Bobby is bobby. Boro's main scoring threats are who? Stewart Downing and David Nugent?? Adomah's only alright imo.
my point being: you dont have the set the chequebook on fire and sell the farm to get a world class striker in this league. you DO need a decent strikiing option and more importantly a squad that is together (and that is what JFH is doing now)Rangers Til I Die

have mentioned this before, hope that Jimmy can maybe pluck a Dutch gem from their obscure leagues, or somewhere else abroad. Maybe someone who he wouldnt have been able to buy with Burton's budgetOriginally posted by maidstone_hoop View PostWill the board put their hands in their pocket and go and get another top striker.

Austin
CA just declared that he will not be leaving the R's in the January transfer window. It means two things: 1. we have a better chance of going up; and 2. We will loose him on a free transfer in the summer. I think the club will have to make an offer to Austin NOW. Everyone knows that to sign a replacement of his calibre we will need to spend big. So the best idea will be to give him a good signing-on fee and a new contract with better wages. That will ensure he will be with us for the coming years. If, as expected, he refuse, then its only logical we will sell him in January, provided that the club are ready to re-invest the money on a similar upcoming striker and not on P.Crouch!

There should be mate. He seems like he has his head screwed and just wants to play football. Staying with us would mean an almost guaranteed starting place every week. He'd almost certainly end up a bit part player in some other teams which he knows is the surest way to destroying a strikers confidence. If we did go up hes back in the prem without all the unsettlement of moving house and family as well.Originally posted by HoopDoggyDogg View PostIf we get promoted this season, do you think there's a chance we could convince him to stay?
That's why I don't understand people saying we need to stabilise and not go up this year. If we did somehow manage it we might still lose him but if we don't we definitely will and off goes the best striker we've had since les Ferdinand. Replacing Charlie would be nigh on impossible.“He'll regret it till his dying day, if ever he lives that long”

Yes I think so. Not a cert at all, he will certainly be tempted to look elsewhere, but if we can offer PL football and a bump up in wages (tbh we would probably pay more than anybody else anyway!) then I don't see why we wouldn't think about staying. It's no secret he is very happy & settled down here plus he is the main man and worshipped by us.Originally posted by HoopDoggyDogg View PostIf we get promoted this season, do you think there's a chance we could convince him to stay? You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.
