A 3 years contract means a much larger payoff if he gets the sack within the first year.

There will likely be clauses in the contract that dictate pay offs & I very much doubt it's as simple as paying off his remaining wages in full.

3 year deal is a sign of commitment IMO & tells me we are attempting to change our strategy & look more long term. I have to admit I would have preferred 2 years, but hey ho, not guna jump on TFs back when we know nothing about the contract particulars.

We do not know what the contract says, perhaps there is a proviso about getting us up within a certain time.

No it doesn't , he could have signed a 10 year contract and still get the same pay off it goes wrong. Its a bit of security for the manager and the club saying you have time to rebuild ( that's a laugh isn't it) time in football.

So what you guys are basically saying the number of years spelled out in the contract means nothing if he gets an early sack? Just an empty number? So why not offer a 10-year contract then? Even more security

Pay off's or the amount you get are specified in your contract when the contract is agreed , so it doesn't really matter what the length of the contract is , you sit down with the club and agree what that figure is, you would also get a loyalty figure and maybe even a percentage on fees you have made the club in transfers in and out, thats when time in a contract kicks in, you could be part of a really strong youth set up see a couple of players sold and be entitled to some of that money that the club make on those players. you can also contest an unfair dismissal , that can take time to sort out, was it Curbishley at west Ham that didn't except his pay off , took years but got the full amount paid up?

We need people in leading positions who can use their heads, not a bunch of former players who have used their heads too much (heading the ball too foten and prob not Mensa-material before that). Former players knows football from a players perspective, but often they don't have the abilities needed to make the best decisions for the club.
