also , James Ward Prowse, Harrison Reed, jay rodriguez, luke shaw . All from the youth team. not to mention bale, walcott and oxlade chamberlain

all from the youth development over the last few years. We have had Raheem Sterling and thats it.
Under 'arry we would always rather get an oldie instead of trusting a youngster. This might mean our youngsters are not good enough. What does this say about our youth development.

Burnley seem to spot very good strikers young e.g Jay Rod, Austin, Ings. They have to as they are run on a shoe string. Sometimes I think all this money we have has made us very lazy.

Southamptons youth academy was set up in 1998. We got academy status last year.

It's all well and good people saying about youth but as has been pointed out on other threads people such as Hitchcock who were proclaimed as the saviour have hardly gone on to set the world alight. Don't remember seeing skapetis since he left for Stoke.

My point is that our lack of youth is due to a complete lack of investment until 2/3 years ago (funnily enough when TF took over) and this season we have signed a number of youngsters Into the youth academy. It will take time and may not be another 5 years until it truly comes to fruition.

Another note, Southampton have just spent £30m on a new training academy which is what we're trying to do. It's funny reading posts from people saying not to waste money on training facilities and criticising a lack of development!

Sadly, short term we will need buy other clubs youth. On an interesting note, Huw Jennings who was at the youth academy at Southampton joined Fulham in 2008 and they are starting to produce some good players like cauley woodrow and Patrick Roberts. Same catchment area as us so the players are definitely out there
