To us lot on WATRB, the rio saga is old news. And its probably convenient for a op-ed columnist to pick Rio as our guy to dump, rather than analyze all 25 players on all 20 teams.

some interesting posts on other clubs:

• Liverpool - Borini - summer target of ours; although unlike the other players mentioned, the only reason he says to dump Borini is because he is still worth good money
• any one else on that list QPR would fancy?

For me, I would probably say if we are in need of funds for January then dumping Rio makes sense...

but keeping with the theme of the article aka one player to dump,
i'd say SWP.

Rio is still respected by all in the dressing room, and as long as he isnt starting or on the subs bench, he could still show Caulker and co a thing or two.
SWP on the other hand is not adding sh1te! If their salaries were close, by the way, it wouldnt even be close, certainly dump SWP!

Really? This sort of underachievement should not command respect, it is worrying for the team spirit. Such undeserved respect can actually undermine the team effort.

His achievement in the game and experience can still be of huge benefit, especially if he sees a future in coaching ahead of him.

His poor performances in half a dozen games at a new club,that was in terrible form as a whole team, does not make him a bad player, and certainly doesn't make him a damaging presence in the squad.

Same can be said about Bosingwa and a dozen other past stars that have graced this club with their underwhelming presence over the last few seasons. Aren't we lucky to have had them?

If Rio was to go would we really miss him?... sure he's a great presence in the dressing room and offers a lot of experience, but would we miss him? Would our good form stop just because he's not there in the dressing room?

As it stands IMO he's 3rd choice to play alongside Caulker at centre back, behind Dunne and Ned. So do we really need him?

You can't compare bosingwa with Rio. Rio may also still play an important part this year.

Rio and SWP should or would have to be omitted from the January squad especially if QPR want to sign Defoe and another CB.

If they want to keep Rio on just for some kind of more or coaching role that would be ok, just don't give him a place in the 25 man squad.

A few poor games in a terribly underperforming team, and his years of experience and obvious quality become not only worthless, but actually a negative influence?

I think you're looking for the most negative possible scenario here.
