Play him in the hole behind the striker's, seems much more suited there in pre season than on the wing like he played in previous games..... also it's not so much dropping Mutch and Fer but get them up to shape/fitness, use them as subs. Like I said ease them in.

I worry Ned won't look much better than Dunne at LCB - we really need to sign a specialist for that position or maybe even play Hill. Otherwise every move to our left breaks down. Don't think people here have really grasped just how much more important CBs passing is when in a 3.Comment

Yeh agree with easing in Fer and Mutch, but not with Hoilett. I don't think changing his position will alter his play enough to warrant sticking him in the team - I saw him three times in pre-season and he still doesn't look like he's learned how to control the ball properly.
You would expect a guy starting in the hole for a PL side to run rings around Irish pub players, but Athlone honestly had a couple players with better touch than Hoilett.
I'll obviously cheer him on if he does get back in the side, but I'm not at all positive.Comment

1 things for absolutely certain their 1st goal would not have happened had Ned been playing - not saying we wouldn't of got a thumping but that particular goal highlights why Ned needs to play against certain teams (teams that'll come at us fast)... games like the Hull game are fine for Dunne, he looked fine and done nothing wrong but the top teams IMO Ned is a must to start.I worry Ned won't look much better than Dunne at LCB - we really need to sign a specialist for that position or maybe even play Hill. The eyesight, you mean? If you're referring to my views on you-know-who:
Hoilett, 2013/14, playing for one of the top sides in the Championship:
26 starts, 12 subs
4 goals, 5 assists
1.2 chances created per game, 2.5 dribbles
Dispossessed 2.5 times per game, 1.7 turnovers
Passing success 80.5%
Taarabt, 2012/13, playing for one of the worst sides in the Premier League
25 starts, 6 subs
5 goals, 4 assists
2.5 chances created, 2.7 dribs
Dispossessed 1.7; turnovers 2.2
Passing 81.5%
So, broadly similar stats. Adel's slightly better. My views aren't just pulled out my Rs!Comment

Yeah Ned is clearly one of our top 3 CBs. I just worry that in a Ned / Caulker/ Rio backline whoever plays LCB will be a weak link as they'll not be able to build moves down that side and will keep having to cut back inside or hoof it into the channels.1 things for absolutely certain their 1st goal would not have happened had Ned been playing - not saying we wouldn't of got a thumping but that particular goal highlights why Ned needs to play against certain teams (teams that'll come at us fast)... games like the Hull game are fine for Dunne, he looked fine and done nothing wrong but the top teams IMO Ned is a must to start.Comment

I honestly feel our back 3 (Caulker, Rio and Ned) with Hill and Dunne as back are more than capable of handling the PL. I think our weak link is going to be the LWB (RWB we've got a proven player in that position, just takes time to adjust to our game/team) but the LWB we've got no one who's proven in that position... I like Yun, who just needs to prove himself at this level. But I really like Phillips, think he's got a great future but the only question mark is his defensive work.
