Exiled QPR goalkeeper Julio Cesar has done his chances of returning to Loftus Road no favours by backing Italy to beat England on Saturday.

The Brazil No.1 is out of favour under Rangers boss and one-time candidate for the England manager's job Harry Redknapp, who axed him from the squad last season in favour of first-choice Rob Green and back-up Brian Murphy.

Redknapp did his best to sell the former Inter Milan keeper, who is pocketing around £100,000-a-week at Loftus Road but he had to settle for shipping him out on loan to Toronto FC for the backend of last season.

Cesar still has a year to run on his Rs deal but after backing England to lose their opener he won't have made himself too popular in West London.

"It's a difficult game, but I wish Italy all the best because it is a country that gave me a wonderful welcome, especially the Inter supporters," he said after his side's 3-1 win over Croatia.

Wasn't that impressed with Brazil but even allowing for that Cesar looked their weak link. If I were an opposing manager I would be telling my players to chuck crosses in, follow up everything and challenge him.

Comes across as decent enough bloke and prior to accident may have been one of the top keepers in the world but from I have seen since he joined us yes can make fantastic saves but flappy and makes me nervous!

Agree, looked very suspect last night just as he did many times for us the season he played here. To be honest I'm not even convinced he's ever been that good, watched a re-cap of the last world cup recently and he had a howler or 2 in that tournament too. All those on here that sing he's praises I'm assuming just don't watch the games and base their opinion purely on reputation. Great shot stopper yes, but he is so dodgy under a high ball or a cross!

I don't think a long term move to Canada is likely given the salary that we are paying Cesar. To be honest I don't see anyone being daft enough to pay him what we are, and he's already made it pretty obvious that he isn't going to walk away from his contract in favour of first time football.

No, you are correct and I was only joking! The way MLS is structured only 3 players can be big wage earners per team, Toronto already have their 3 with Defoe, Bradley and Gilberto, there has never been a keeper as a Designated Player in the league!

Personally I think he'll end up back in Brazil or in Europe somewhere with us continuing to pay a large chunk of his salary.
