Anyway he has retired now. Useless for QPR. Hopefully we still get regular updates on his dinner and what shower gel he uses.
Let's rename the Ellerslie after Park. When we've moved to the new stadium and the day before it's demolished......

joon, is there anything in the korean press that hints at what these 'penalties or contractual obligations' might be? i've never heard of a player buying himself out of a contract before... (well not to retire at least)

The part that you quoted in bold was based on (yet another) recent interview given by Park's father, in which he stated that although one year remained on Park's contract with QPR, the club could not [legally] stop Park from retiring if he chose to do so. Based on the tone, I thought there could be strings attached, but it was not explicit.

The only other published details about the extended contract terms were that it was extended for a term of 1-year (until summer 2015), that Park would be allowed to go on loan to PSV (or other club of his choice) for 2013-14 season, that Park's wages were greatly lowered to accommodate PSV's salary cap and reduce the burden QPR, and that said lowered wages would apply to the extended year regardless of whether Park remained on loan or returned to QPR in 2014-15 season.

Bad timing though. Hopefully the club, players and fans are strong enough and big enough to come through this devastating news before the big game.

And so we lose 50 million of, to use my personal favourite quote from the Park Saga, "QPR's truest fans".... Good riddance Park, good riddance.
"Imagine a relationship that went wrong but you held on in there for years: that's what it is like supporting a football team. Your loyalty to a team can never die. Ties are stronger than they could ever be with a woman. If she goes and sleeps with your best mate, it's over. If the Rs' boss, Ian Holloway, slept with my best mate, QPR would still be my team. Even if many of the things that you loved about going to matches have gone - terraces, team shirts without sponsors and being able to smoke at grounds - you still stick with your team." - Peter Doherty.

Good luck to Park. First and furthermost I chose to remember his last matches for us. They were not that bad at all.

Think we can move on from this saga. Yun is proving his worth.
