Club issue statement on latest accounts

Chairman Tony Fernandes issues statement on behalf of QPR Shareholders …

Tony Fernandes, speaking on behalf of the QPR Shareholders, has today issued the following statement in relation to the club’s latest statutory accounts.

‘When we took ownership of QPR in August 2011, our initial objective was to secure Premier League stability and to establish the club in the top flight.

While we worked hard to achieve this, we were always mindful that relegation was a possibility, just as it is for the majority of clubs competing in the top division of English football.

While relegation was not part of our strategy, it was something we were prepared for.

Every great endeavour needs support in the short term. Every business requires capital to get off the ground. When we bought this club there were no assets. We had to build from the ground up.

Now we have great assets and we are in a position where we can use this asset base to develop our squad, without the need to invest new capital.

Relegation wasn't part of the plan and it has cost us financially and emotionally, but I and my fellow Shareholder are fighters. We are committed and here for the long term.

With regards to the debt it is important to understand that this is through shareholder loans.

The debt in the club is owed TO the Shareholders BY the Shareholders.

We are all fully committed to QPR in the short, medium and long term and are 100 per-cent focused on delivering our vision for the club.

Promotion back to the Premier League is a major challenge, but one we are committed to.

Achieving promotion this season is not critical to our long-term strategy, but it remains our short term goal.

If we fail in our bid for promotion, the support is there and there is no need for any more advances to build a squad.

We are now in a position where we can work with what we have, and raise capital to invest in the squad by selling players who are not part of the manager’s plans.

We would like to reassure the QPR supporters that our commitment is unwavering and we remain passionate about our club.’

The only people that seem to be flapping are the gutter press as usual, just another story to fill columns that they cant fill with anything else.

IOW he plans to sell several players in the summer. I do wonder who or what these "great assets" are though...

          Remy £20million
          Taarabt £8million

          Possibly Barton £1million
Caesar £1million if all goes well in Toronto

Plus we'll still have the likes of Austin and Philips on the books.

Yep plus the likes of Granero and Park will bring on some money. We will be banking at least £25m in transfer fees this summer. That buys some farking good championship players. Plus the likes of mbia, Zamora and AJ off the wage bill.
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

Remy and Taarabt should get somewhere between 15-20 million, if not more. Not including the money owed to Spuds of course although rumour has it, that particular deal ends this summer so if we sell him after a certain date we get all the cash. Realistically speaking, if don't go up we should be able to build a decent competitive squad from the sale of these two. If we do go up then its a completely different ball game.

                Cheers Stanley.

                Just wondering about this part:

The way im reading this is he is talking about the playing staff as assets and that he is happy with what we already have. This makes me think we will see quite a few of those out of contract this season, some who many want to see gone, offered new deals.
IMO we have 5 sellable assets (when you take into consideration wage and other teams actually wanting them) in Simpson, Phillips, Taarabt, Austin and Remy.
The rest we probably couldn't give away due to one reason or another.

                I hope i am wrong.

Yeah Remy of course, but other than that its not exactly a lot, is it? Selling Austin and Phillips would be pointless.

Not sure about him being an accountant, but like you said he's a businessman, and a very successful one. Its in his best interest that "QPR" works for him. His whole reputation is on the line here and that reason alone is why I trust him. Of course he says things to the fans/press to keep people happy but IMO he will do everything in his power to make this "project" work.

The trouble and problems would only begin if and when TF&co decided to pull out.

Let's not forget its also about NW10 new tinsel town which makes QPR fade into insignificance.
