Because if they are rejected they will be in much more trouble back home than the successful footballer who can find another club to pay his wages. I'm not talking about those lazy asylum seekers who don't want to work in the first place, they are parasites who deserve to stay and rot in their home countries. If only they could somehow be weeded out successfully during the asylum granting selection process your UK would be a better place. But then what to do with the same kind of parasites who are natively proliferating in the UK nowadays, your home-grown scroungers? Where to send them? Who'd want them?

Problem is we have enough of our own Lazy home grown scum but we seem to be adding to it with low lifes from outside countries.

Tough $hit. This isn't a charity case island we live on, we can't welcome in anybody that "will be in trouble" if sent home, just because they've clung to a lorry for days to get to our borders.

I agree it would be ideal if it were possible to hand pick who was allowed in and ensure only the hard workers & those with skills we require be allowed in, and even exchange them for the "home grown" spongers you refer to, I think we would all love that utopia.... But it ain't possible & ain't guna happen. So in the real world, makes no sense whatsoever to reject a footballer on the grounds he hasn't played an international game, whilst letting in Abdul & his 17 kids and dishing em out a 9 bed detached gaff in Kensington whilst we're at it.

I have spoken with a few people, some not even football fans, and they cannot understand why someone who will be earning a 5 figure weekly salary and paying into the high tax bracket, should even need a work permit. Especially in this era of Govt austerity!

Maybe the laws re players coming in from outside Europe are framed primarily to protect jobs for EU citizens; work permits are required for UK citizens getting jobs in Dubai, US etc too.

I have just read this thread from top to bottom.
Lots of balanced opinion and some with fair reasoning.

It is my conclusion from the respnses above the lad will be refused his work permit.
Should this be the case I hope the club have plan B ready to be actioned immediately!

I have to say I think the £6m quoted is a massive risk and wouldn't be unhappy if it fails.

I listened to a woman on the radio a few weeks back complaining about her benefits being cut to £500 a week because of the new benefits cap. She then went on to say that as a family they were going to have to start thinking about cutting back on the amount of mobile phones they have and that they might have to get rid of Sky TV. Up till that point I'd never hit a woman but if she was in front of me saying that I don't think I could stop myself. My blood was boiling.
