It is annoying how everyone complains that signings aren't thought out by footballing people and the owners are making all the decisions, and then when a signing comes in who the manager and his footballing staff want everyone gets worried that they are going to be poor.

It's called having strength in depth. Harry likes proper wingers, how many have we got? Phillips is out for two months and they want 4 million. It would make more sense to bring in a hungry young loan player (Assaidi) and then look at the Phillips situation again in January when he's fit. Townsend has featured for Spurs in pre-season and again a permanent deal doesn't look likely as it would cost the club a lot of money.

Couldnt break into a Liverpool team ahead of a teenager (Sterling) and a winger who they rather played as a left back (Downing).

Worries me that this is another Macheda - something not quite right about him (attitude or technical ability)

Townsend has featured and done really well in their pre-season too. WIth Bale potentially off soon, it would be nuts for them to let him go.

We do definitely need a bit of creativity in the team, whether that be on the wing or in central midfield. I am a little concerned by what I've read from the Liverpool fans about this guy, to say he's not rated up there would be an understatement!

this^^^ - we can't sign promising young english prospects without overpaying; this seems sensible.

what is the obsession amongst our fans with townsend? he did alright last season but is still a VERY raw talent and it seems impossible to deal with spurs without overpaying

i wouldn;t trust much you hear from liverpool supporters, that whole club is one massive cringe
