Hardly that effective is it when you take into account all his games and not just the ones at the start of the season?

Mackie is a very useful squad member - and perhaps your archetypal championship player.
However. Once he loses his pace you will be left with nothing..... he'll be completely ineffectual (SWP is a case in point).
So, perhaps the "cash in why we can" option is not so silly given that players do tend to drop off in terms of pace around 28-29 years old.
Personally, I would prefer him to stay.

Yes, he runs around a lot, but his 1st touch is poor (like Agyemang's), his finishing isn't great and he doesn't cross the ball well either.
Having said that, unless Hooper, Austin or some other decent Championship striker is signed, I'd keep him. Cisse, Bothroyd and Campbell have already gone with only Johnson and Zamora remaining...until they get injured.
The plus side about being in the Championship is that QPR can sign players on loan from September 9th, which means any Premiership striker who fails to make the 25 man squads could be available to sign. The French U21 striker Arsenal recently signed could be an option.

Strange that we all want players who want to play for us and the others can F off, but on this thread a player who wants to leave is getting praise? All this talk about Adel can do 1 etc yet he hasn't even handed in a transfer request.
imo Mackie is no big loss and I would be very surprised if it came back to bite us on our #### if we let him have his wish and leave.@chrisrobson9

Let's face it we all admire his spirit but he has failed to impress last season when given a chance and clearly wants out.
There is probably an over-reaction due to the Hooper bad news but that (ironically) may have been why he wants to leave. He perhaps thought Hooper was a nailed on like some of us did.

Mackie wants to play first team football and Redknapp is gonna give him that. Calling that "not wanting to play for the club" is twisting things. And to compare it to Adel Taarabt's behaviour in recent years is laughable!

Redknapp would be stupid to let him go. Also some of you please shut it about headless chicken comments, he's given this club 110% at all times and has done more than most of the squad over the past couple seasons, show some respect.

Mackie thinks he is a lot better then what he is, and is throwing his toys out because he can't get a game (rightly so imo) Discussing mackie is where a load of Rangers fans disagree with me because imo I think he is useless, a teachers pet, and if we wanted someone to run around like a headless chicken we may as well sign a headless chicken as they both would have the same amount of footballing talent. My opinion of course and I respect the people who think he is brilliant, I just disagree with them.@chrisrobson9

mackie wants first team football
redknapp doesn't view him as anything more than a squad player
there seem to be quite a few other managers who will offer him first team football
big difference between taarabt and mackie is that other managers actually want mackie in their squad.
there's supposedly been interest before in mackie - cardiff, the spam etc were all supposed to be asking about him last summer, but he's stayed loyal to the team. at the same time last year, adel was (ludicrously) talking up the possibility of a move to man utd...
