Redknapp on QPR, Cesar, Simpson and Barton

QPR manager Harry Redknapp joined Neil Ashton to discuss the latest ins and outs at Loftus Road.

Joey Barton's time in west London appears to be over after the 60-year-old told talkSPORT: “Joey Barton doesn’t want to come back to QPR. He wants to join Marseille – that’s the situation."

And when asked about Cesar, Redknapp added: “Julio Cesar will move on. He’s a top class goalkeeper, Brazil’s No.1. He’s been in great form for Brazil and I presume there’s a big club out there for him. He won’t want to play in the Championship, he’s a goalkeeper for a big club.”

Redknapp claims Joey Barton can still have a future at QPR – but believes the midfielder will join Marseille this summer. The 30-year-old spent last season at the Ligue 1 side, after falling out of favour with previous manager Mark Hughes, and has made it clear that he would like to stay at the Stade Velodrome.

“Joey Barton doesn’t want to come back to QPR, he wants to join Marseille – that’s the situation. There’s a discrepancy between the wages he can earn at QPR and what he could get at Marseille and, if he can get a deal sorted out, he’ll move on. He is a decent player, there is no doubt about that and he would be an asset as a player. I’ve never managed him before so I wouldn’t know what to expect but every time I’ve spoken to him in the past he’s come across as a sensible lad. He can play, I watched him quite a lot at Marseille when I was looking at Loic Remy. He wants to stay in Marseille but there needs to be a bit of give and take. I imagine that move will happen though."

I f find it strange Barton did not agree deal with Marseille because of his wage demand because he once tweeted that money isn't an issue for him.

sheer greed, most of them could retire today and have a comfortable living. As TF says, why should he have to pay the wages of players to play for other clubs

Although this is dated 29 June, I remember reading a very similar interview a couple of months ago. If Joey was going to sort something out with Marseilles, I think he would have done it by now. It has been made clear that they can't afford to pay the wages he wants. Also he is now back in the UK and training starts on Monday (I assume at QPR).

I hope TF never give him pay off. Either play for QPR or leave for free.

                  Hopefully that's the situation Yousef.

All things considered, Barton has been tremendously bad signing for us. Hopefully Barton and his agent appreciate that and agree to a mutual termination with no pay-off to allow Barton to make his move to Marseille. If they are going to hold out for a pay-off then we should point blank refuse and fine him if he doesn't report back for pre-season!

Good point Tarbie. This could work in our favour If he doesn't turn up tomorrow.

did he really say he wants to come straight back up and only needs to buy just a couple of players to do that?

if so either a) he got sun stroke or b) messi and ronaldo are about to sign

or c) perhaps wants to make it sound like we're going to be a bit selective for a change and avoid agents and players thinking we'll sign anybody and pay whatever they want.

Fining him won't help the club. I always thought when a players fined by a club the PFA or a charity gets his wage so the club still loses out (unless I have my facts wrong).
