"guess the gate crowds and well, we both know theres no bloody way our income is a fraction of our expenditure"

I don't need to guess Scott I look at the accounts, off the top of my head revenue was about 7M and expenditure about 11m in the last period I can't be bothered getting the calculator out but that is not even 2/1 never mind 10/1 is it? Happy to be instructed if i am off the mark

Peter please change the picture now.
I don't dislike the man but I am becoming tired of it.
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

its irrelevant that we have smaller crowds simply because there's nothing we can do about that in the next 4-5 years whatever happens.

for us to hit regular crowds of even 18,000 we would have to be top of this league playing blinding football (incidentally 18,000 would of course no way sustain the funding we require) so therefore it seems to me that at the moment our transfer policy is purely trial and error, hoping that one day a combination of the loans we bring in will propel us to the premiership - notwithstanding the point we have probably spent more on these loans through wages and fees than if we had brought in the right player permanently.

for example, helguson, pellicori, agymang and blackstock's 1.5million transfer fee if combined would certainly have paid for beckford and his wages - easily.

would we be better off with beckford than those aforementioned? of course we wont ever know and it would have been a calculated risk but whilst im happy at bringing in players of the simpson, taarabt, watson ilk i have to say im extremely concerned at where this long term progress is going to happen, especially when year in year out the only players we're actually adding to our squad are cheapies and we continually have to hear 'we'll bring someone good in on loan'.

at this rate, lets say we do make the premiership in the next 2 years (again i think this is unlikely if we continue our transfer strategy) then we might end up with a massively inflated squad of players on huge wages (your agymangs and helgusons) whilst the quality players who actually got us there may have returned to their parent clubs. we then therefore are in the premiership with a mid-championship squad!

          just a thought.

If we make the premiership, money will be recouped and i'm sure Bernie and the brains know this. Crowds will soar and the windfall from SKY will easily make up for it.

Wigan had more at Rugby games 6-7 years ago for example.

Newcaslt have kept all there players from the Prem which I was really surprised about as they have some players who wouldn't look out of place in a UEFA cup team, Taylor, Nolan, Gutierez Colocini and co.

Erm - they have a much better team than us.
You could say their position at the end of last season was a false position.
The team's confidence was shot to bits and the whole played nothing like the sum of the parts should have.
Look at the forwards they have for starters.
Hughton has instilled confidence and belief. They might fall away if that confidence disappears after a couple of dodgy 0-1's which WILL happen (the results I mean), but the players themselves are definitely good enough to go back up.

We have promise and potential. They have players that have delivered at one time or another, in the prem.

when i said that newcastle/boro/west brom had a better team than us i honestly thought that this was stating the obvious.

                            how wrong was i!

i do wonder about some of our tinted views on certain individuals.

Hardly.... Yes they have retained many, incidently a lot who are ludicrously overpaid and wouldn't be wanted by others either due to attitude or excessive wages for average players, such as the Bartons, Nolans and Alan Smiths of this world, and some decent players to be fair. But they have got rid of plenty, Owen, Viduka, Martins, Duff, Bassong plus others no doubt that elude me right now.

The fact they got relegated was shocking with the squad they had and it was a false position then, not really now.

Even more laughable is the blind faith their fans have in Alan Shearer as a messiah and want him as manager.... yes the same bloke who inspired 1 win in 8, which averaged out over a season in the prem would be less than 5 wins....which would compete with the lowest prem tally ever.... Way eye man, he's clearly the answer to our prayers like..!! Braindead.
