Never has a day so divided the glass half full/ empty crowd, so plse excuse me for going on a bit in this post.
Why I think some are growing frustrated is seeing just how fast the competition has come along. Plse just take a moment to read the few lines at the bottom of this thread from the BBC about Bristol City's new striker. I admit I know very little about him and he might well be pants, but anyone who can score 18 goals in 53 international appearances is unlikely to be a total mug. And Bristol City is meant to be one of the weaker teams of the division this year.
Against that, Ipswich and Sheffield Utd have been desperately trying to chuck millions around today on some fairly mediocre players. Think even Gianni's fiercest critics wd have to acknowledge that some of his transfers have been blinding (Watson for one, Routledge, Buz and many more), players as good as any in the division for not massive amounts. Yes of course he has bought the odd lemon, but then Sir Alex bought Djemba Djemba.
Now I've calmed down after the disapointments of today think we also should recognise that we do have to trim our wage bill before we get more players in - you can hardly blame the owners for looking at that squad and saying "its massive, if you want more players, sell some of what you have first." Suspect Gianni and Madge's problem is how you off-load players like Helguson, Agyman, Ainsworth, Mahon, Alberti, perhaps even players like Stewart and Hogan, when in some cases they haven't exactly been wowing potential buyers in the shop window.
But somehow or other if we are to have any chance of going up this season Gianni and Madge will have to find a way to free up some money by off-loading players to loan - hopefully with a view to buy - a tough goal scoring centre forward, as well as a talented left back. This might result in a few awkward choices: eg I'm a real Legs fan, but hand on heart if losing him meant we cd get a 20 goal a season striker, I'd just have to wave him goodbye.
Think we probably all need to take a deep breath and hope that the club can belatedly get it together, working from now so that come the opening of the loan market they are ready this time to pounce on their favoured targets having worked out how to free up the cash. Here's hoping...

BBC report:
Bristol City have signed Costa Rica striker Alvaro Saborio and Dutch midfielder Evander Sno on loan for the rest of the season.
Saborio, 27, joins from Swiss top-flight club FC Sion, where he has scored 36 times in 87 appearances.
Holland under-21 international Sno, 22, arrives from Ajax who he joined in August 2008 after two years at Celtic.
Saborio has scored 18 times in 53 games for Costa Rica while Sno has three goals in 15 under-21 internationals.
