Not the best of days yesterday, with just Oriental Rose giving us a return. After a stuttering start to August, we’ll be looking for better luck today.

Today’s bets:

3.10 - Haydock - Rio Cobolo - 3 pts win. Available at 7/2 (General)

Disappointment in Ireland ten days ago could've been down to a number of factors. He is versatile from 5 to 8 furlongs but seven furlongs in soft ground on a testing track may have been too much for him and the first time blinkers were also an unknown. They are removed this afternoon and the visor in which he has produced a consistent level of form this season is reinstated. Hopefully Inthawain will pu a decent pace to the race and, if he does, Rio Cobolo should be putting in some good late work. Still on a competitive mark he represents a stable in very good form. They have booked a jockey with a 35% strike rate for them this season and, although the selection has yet to win over six furlongs, he has enough form over it to believe that winning this race is within his capabilities.

4.10 - Haydock - Citizenship - 1 pts e/w. Available at 8/1 (Blue Square and 888 Sport)

Disappointed over 14 furlongs in soft ground here last month but he raced much too freely in the early stages to get home in the conditions. Dropped back in trip at Goodwood last time out he again pulled too hard in the initial stages but, over the shorter trip he was able to lay down a challenge late on. Considering he was anchored off a slow pace it was a highly creditable effort and today's trip/ground could prove ideal. The lack of a natural front runner in the field is a slight worry but he has the assistance of a top, strong jockey to keep him in check. Due to go up three pounds in future handicaps and we may not have seen the best of him yet.

4.20 - Yarmouth - Applesnap - 0.5 pts e/w. Available at 25/1 (Bet 365)

Can only be a small speculative wager but Applesnap does have more ability than she cares to show. She has the profile of a regressive Filly who probably won't stay today's trip. However there have been a few signs this season that she is still capable of getting involved at this level and the handicapper has given her every chance by dropping her a fair way in the weights to a career low mark. She can look a bit of a nut case at times but if the re-introduction of the blinkers work the oracle she could run a decent race at a big price.

4.30 - Brighton - Shavoulin - 2 pts win. Available at 7/1 (General)

4.40 - Haydock - Hucking Heat - 2 pts win. Available at 7/1 (General)
