thought he had a good game and does look to be a good signing for this season at least. not aerially particularly imposing, however he clearly read the ball better than ferdinand, and seemed composed and comfortable. from last night's showing, what he lacked in pace (and it wasn't that noticeable) he made up for in anticipating the ball.
he took an injury not long before half time and came off for treatment but after that, just got on with it. a good start for him with us i'd say.come on you r's!

I really think he maybe one of the more key signings we make this transfer windowUnder Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
And many more mistakes
LES FERDINAND, IT'S TIME TO GO

Thought he had a good game. Him and Faulin were the two stand out players for me.
I have always thought Ferdinand was a reasonable CB but last night compared to Nelson he looked poor.
Nelson chased the ball down non stop, wasn't afraid to get stuck in and looks competent enough to play the ball out instead of the pointless hoofing that Ferdinand tends to do.
I sit lower Loft and could both see and hear him marshalling the whole back four like he has been there years.
Looks to be a good signing to me and I hope he gets a run in the team.

been lurking on here a while finally signed up for an account so i could post in here.
I honestly think Nelson should be a first choice CB out of our current options after last night, he looked confident and wasnt afraid to get stuck in, and he just seems to pay more attention to what is going on! On a couple of occassions I seen Fabio making some dashes up the wing and Nelson was immediately moving over a bit to cover him. He may be a bit old and lack pace but he has his head in the game which is moe than you can say for Anton.

Agreed. I don't really understand why he hasn't featured yet, but it might just be resting him after the Olympics and he'll play a larger role going forward. I feel like we desperately need a natural leader in defence, which is something Ferdinand definitely isn't. As I said in another thread, Onuoha put in a decent performance against Norwich so it would be interesting to see the two of them paired up. Assuming we sign Mbia, I wouldn't mind seeing something like this against City:Originally posted by Adel View Postbeen lurking on here a while finally signed up for an account so i could post in here.

Agree with pretty much all of your post, but did you not think Zamora was a stand out form last night also? I thought he was superb. Also, as Godfather says, Bosingwa looked very comfortable on the ball and think once he is settled he will proove a superb buy for us.Originally posted by rodman View PostThought he had a good game. Yep, fair point he had a good game too. Looked like he grew in confidence throughout, the chip for his goal was excellent and only a confident player would have tried it.Originally posted by MattyRangers View PostAgree with pretty much all of your post, but did you not think Zamora was a stand out form last night also? Agree pal. I rate Zamora, the work he does up there goes unnoticed by alot - holds the ball up so well. The Swansea game, IMO, showed how much we need him up there.Originally posted by rodman View PostYep, fair point he had a good game too. Our best 3 players last night imo were Nelson, Faurlin and Zamora.
Nelson, made some fantastic challenges, one in particular was a right cruncher about 15 mins before the end. He was decent in the air and distribution spot on. His scanning was superb, so he always knew where his next pass was. I like the guy and he should start saturday in place of Hill.

I agree with this and we should be using him to hold the ball up for cisse who should be making runs across the box and blasting it in the back of the net, however cisse seems to be dramatically underperforming all this season.Originally posted by MattyRangers View PostAgree pal.
