  • Starting XI versus Hull

Assuming Sandro and Charlie ready to go:

Green (season's MVP so far IMO)
    Isla Caulker Ferdinand Yun
Vargas Sandro Barton Phillips (speed + experience)
    Zamora Austin

    Subs:
    McCarthy
    Hill
    Traore
    Hoilett
    Taarabt
    Krancjar
    Zarate

For me its the same starting 11 as last time but sandro in for henry, either taarabt/zarate/vargas in behind zamora or austin alongside him.

Might be wrong, but don't think Charlie is fit for this Saturday.
Also think it's a bit early for Sandro as well, maybe on the bench.

Think with a break after this game we will pull out all the stops.

I'm not a huge fan of rushing players back right after injury. It often results in them going off again after 20 mins and where does that leave you? We scored twice at Sunderland so I'd start with Charlie on the bench (assuming he is fit).

I'd play Phillips on the right, his more natural position.

              Green.

              Isla. Caulker. Ferdinand . Yun.

              Phillips. Barton. Taarabt. Vargas

              Austin. Zamora.

Phillips in his recent resurgence has played his best stuff on the right so that where he should play. Vargas has done next to nothing on the wing and has had his opportunities there so for me he plays up top or hes on the bench. Would not mind seeing Adel on left like he was in championship cutting in onto his right

Mad how many changes people are making to the side against Sunderland. I'd stick with the same, but replace Fer with Zarate/Taarabt. Bobby holds it up so well so I'd keep him up top, then have Vargas/Austin to bring on from the bench.

Spot on! I'd have Zarate behind BZ with Sandro, Charlie and Adel to come on if needed.

I'm gobsmacked that no one stands up for Henry! The first poster doesn't even have him on the frickin bench!!!

Green aside he's been our most consistent performer.

I vote for the same side that beat Sunderland, as it was a winning side, but replace the INJURED Fer with either Taarabt, Zarate or Vargas - whomever looks livliest in training!

The fact that we won at Sunderland owed a great deal to our playing 4231. Why change that? We haven't the players to play 442 away. There's no pace in that team. And why shift Phillips to the left? He's right footed. And made two goals from the right. Same team as Sunderland for me with Adel in for Fer. Why on earth change a team formation which finally won away??

Agreed, I think Vargas has underachieved, give Adel a go, Zarate seems like he only plays for himself, Sandro off the bench is the right call.
                            Kept the faith!
