  • ainsworth as full back

i would like to see, ainsworth given a chance at right back because he could
put some good challenges in and could also attack up the wings
i cant see him him getting the right wing slot of rutledge even though hes a better crosser of the ball, also buzsacky can play on either wing
    YOUR THOUGHTS GENTS

He's not the answer, I don't think his legs could handle a long game let alone a long season. He has to stay for morale and as an impact sub on the odd occasion but i don't think he'll be a major player for us this year!

What did you think of Rose at right back on saturday? I thought he looked a bit handy there myself, Not bad for a forward!

      WELL

Ithink that forwards make fantastic full backs remember wayne faradey or clive wilson even david bardsley played more like a winger
most clubs only play two up front so you dont need to leave four players back
i thought rose was brilliant at full back
but gary barrowdale looks more like a center half than a full back he looked very uncertain at the full back position

We seem quite chock a block with centre backs playing as full backs.Ramage is another.

your obsession with playing wingers as full backs is getting worrying.

Firstly, as swashbuckling as Gaz is, he barely has the legs for 45 minutes, let alone for 90 minutes, and definitely not as the Roberto Carlos / Cafu esque full back you're clearly expecting him to be.

Secondly, Ephraim at left back, despite the guy is completely powder puff and couldn't win a 70/30 ball. couple him with Cook on the left wing, and ad i pointed out in one of your numerous identical threads on the subject, our left flank becomes a help yourself buffet for any average right winger.

Thirdly Buzacky is NOT a winger either. he is a central midfielder, a trequartista if you're being pedantic. Sticking your most influential player out on the left flank completely limits his influence in the game. also, he's predominantly right footed, which means he's going to cut in and pass, and therefore unlikely to go to the byline and provide the crosses that your beloved Dex is going to need to score any goals next season. beacuse, let's face it, playing the ball to Dexter's feet is just asking for trouble.

finally, just because Clive Wilson was a winger converted to a full back does not mean that every winger can immediately play as a full back. personally i think that full back is the least important position on the pitch, as stainrodisalegend can testify, but it doesn't mean it's an easy position to play. how about we get specialised full backs for the full back positions, and specialised wingers for the wingers positions, and we stick our best player where is most lethal - 18 yards from the opposition goal, bang in the middle? Simples.

Ainsworth is too slow to be a right back or a championship player. Dont get me wrong i think he is great for the club but isnt fit enough to play at this level and speed.

DFE talks crap very often, and I'm sure this is just for the sake of having a good laugh...BUT, on this occassion, I think GA has all the attributes to play that role. He's possibly the best tackling winger in the league and he loves to bomb up and down.

The only draw back for me is his age and fitness levels which are vital in this role. If he's able to prove a good enough show of stamina, I seriously believe he could work there so for once DFE...You're not all too far offf mate

Dex, this is possibly your most ridiculous post so far, and that's saying something.

GA is past it and even when supposedly fit, he couldn't last 30 mins without looking knackered, and that was just running the wing..... now when older, even less fit than back then, you now tout him to be a flying fullback and want him to run up and down the entire right flank......??!

                    He would last 5 minutes.

And as for being the best tackling winger in the league and playing him with someone else on the bench to come on..... Hello!! Wow he made some tackles, but i think you'll find there's a lot more to defending than that, including positional awareness of self and opposition, defensive line, cover, when to go and when not to etc etc, oh and energy, which he doesn;t have!

Here's a novel alternative.... why don't we play a Full back at Full back, or at worse a defender by trade, who know the position and responsibilities inside out and have done more than a "few tackles" in their career to justify the place, then perhaps, again a novel theory, have a defender on the bench to replace them if needed. :what:

Jeff..............you've hit the nail on the head.

Dex, one of these days you're going to write a post that isn't completely insane!

full backs cover more of the pitch than most and taking into consideration gareths age i feel a balony sandwich on rye coming on.
what the hell was god thinking of when he thought of hamsters?

IMO Putting ainsworth at RB wouldnt solve anything, infact by doing that exactly what are you trying to solve, our issue is a LB.

IMO Ramage is good enough to get in the team, he improved alot towards the end of last season, and now having settled totally in i think you will see a much improved player next season IF HE IS PICKED.

But OUR OTHER OPTION IS AS FOLLOWED: although alot of people want connolly at CB i dont get it, ok thats his prevered position but if it aint broke dont fix it, Stewart and Gorkks were a total joy to watch for best part of the whole season so id leave them together at the heart of the r's defence and put Connolly in at RB.

Connolly has expressed a number of times that he's a team player and will be happy to continue to play out of position if needs be.
Cant believe it, ive been PWOPER MUGGED ORF...

Forget all the other monkeys minus Gorrks, Connelly is a future premiership player. Even maybe captain one day so he must play is his favourite position of centre back. Lets start playing players in there natural positions. Cook on the left not the middle etc etc
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!
