  • Too Much Flair..Not Enough Grit??

    Where does everyone fit in?

A fit Buzsacky plays in midfield, but Routledge and Cook don't get stuck in.

Have we got enough players who get stuck in?

Surely we need two ball winners in the team.

out of Mahon, Legs, Rowlands and maybe Lopez?

Then surely Tarrabdt, Vine and Lopez are also flair players?

Last season we couldn't create, arguably too much grit and not enough talent and flair. Lopez can be the holding midfielder, he also has the ability to get the flair players involved with key passes. Can't see Rowlands being a regular next season if we retain Lopez.

We had one of the best defences in the league, that's enough grit for me.

Cook on the bench. The other 4 fit in just fine.

            Pete's 25 a season man.

Lopez and Buzsaky should be the first names on the teamsheet IMO

dont like the bench that much but thats the formation we should play.

change rb for ramage as he done well tail end of season.

                    new left back

and new striker move/rotate between vine, routledge and taarabt

so out of: vine, routledge, taarabt have 1 on the bench other 2 start.

cook doesnt get a look in imo.

and finally id rather legs in middle out of mahon, rowlands and lopez. but thats me

                    Lovejoy: "No?!"

Difficult one. Problem with playing Vine on his own is he is not an out and out goalscorer albeit in my view he is the best forward we have had since our Premier**** days. Running from deep he is class. I would have either Dexter or a new striker who can stick the ball in the net with Vine in a fairly free role alongside. Add in some of the creative midfielders and we have a potentially very fluid line-up who could lay waste to much of this division.

In answer to Pete's question we do need Legs or Mahon to add some steel, not necessarily both but some of our fancier players will have to track back and help out.

I agree - we need more grit and determination. I think we have some great players, but there is no leader of enough quality to strive the team on. Many will say Rowlands is the answer, but for me - hes a good player - not a very good player, which is what we need to take us to the next level.

We definitely have too many flair players to put them all in the same side, but it does allow us to use the bench creatively. The other problem is that we have no out and out striker (hopefully someone who can play with their back to goal and pose a physical goalscoring threat up front). Vine cannot and should not play that position. Neither can we have both Vine & Buzz in a free role. I also think it will be difficult to fit Vine, Buzz and Routledge in same side unless it is an a 442 at home. Cook is probably going to be surplus to requirewments unless he can pick up his pace and form. I therefore see it panning out something like this...

                          GK: Cerny
                          RB: Ramage/Connolly/Leigertwood
                          CB: Connolly/Stewart
                          CB: Gorkss/Hall
LB: New Player/Connolly (We should offload Delaney)
                          MFR: New Player (Pratley?)/Ephraim
MFC: Leigertwood/Lopez (We should offload Mahon as no Premiership potential)
                          MFL: Rowlands/New Player (Pratley?)
                          AMR: Buzz/Routledge/Balanta
                          Striker: New Player/Blackstock/Ageymang
                          AML: Vine/Taarabt/Cook

If our flair players are good enough(and i believe they are)then they can switch positions and formations where necessary.

                            Buzz,Vine,Rowly,Routledge,Cookie.

                            All can play together IMO.
