The striker or 'forward's' main role in Neil's system is to play with his back to goal and act as a battering ram, to be big and strong, hold the ball up, then distribute it to the oncoming midfielders, or if it comes in the air, to knock it down or flick it on to them.

If they happen to grab the odd goal here and there, thats a welcome bonus.

The proof is in the pudding, hence our league position, 5 points clear at the top and +30 goal difference, and all the other stats and facts at top of this thread.

This obsession people have for a goal-scoring striker is just conditioning, because they've been led to believe that is the blueprint for success. i.e. thats the norm, but just because its the norm, doesnt mean thats the ONLY way to do it, as Neil is proving. People just need to think outside the box a bit and see that there are alternative approaches that can be equally as successful.
