I blew a lot on vodka and tonic, gambling and fags. Looking back, I think I overdid it on the tonic. - The one and only Stanley Bowles

In the Stan Bowles autobiography - which I recommend to you as just about the only sports biography I've really enjoyed cover to cover - he describes it as the best side never to win the championship. Which in a way sums up QPR to me. Lots of swashbuckling style, laced with heartache. Although of course I'd have loved it if we had won the league ultimately I'd rather to have played so brilliantly people are talking about it 30 yrs later rather than be like chelsea or blackburn when they won by just grinding it out horrible wins.
One of the more poigniant passages is about the afternoon Liverpool won it, and gerry francis invites stan back to his house where francis's wife is cooking dinner - but bowles just felt too inconsolable to go.
