I just watched the first half of the Brentford game and felt really sorry for Alex Baptiste, he was the only one defending in that back four!
Furlong was everywhere and nowhere, gave the ball away twice, didn't close down and looked absolutely woeful, can not see him get selected on saturday! If selected we will be in trouble!
Caulker looks to be back in the dark side again and was almost trying to hide on the pitch. Poor lad, he will not play against Cardiff!
Robinson far too offensive with his lack of defensive play. Manning didn't trust him and drifted to the left hand side to cover for him, as did Baptiste! No chance of getting selected on saturday!

I can't get a back five together, maybe it will be like this:
    -----------------Hamalainen-Onouha-Baptiste------------
    Woszolek------------------------------------------------Bidwell

    Or:
    --------------Baptiste-Onouha-Bidwell-----------
    Woszolek------------------------------------Manning

We'll need a central defender if Hall is out for long!

Manning drifted to the left and created a big hole in the middle, Chair was to offensive and made Ariel push forward, that created a hole between the midfield and a pathetic back four. Still, Ariel looks quite okay to me, a bit fooled in this game due to Chairs attacking willingness.

Sylla and Yeni didn't do too bad actually.

Oh, I forgot. Woszolek, a top player all over!

Furlong can't Defend, attacking FB is the only position he could play I believe. I think Bidwell is half decent and I hope Baptiste can be decent but haven't seen enough of him. Our defence Seriously needs strengthening but doubt if anything is left in the pot.
with that in mind, and Robinson also being better suited in attcking, could they not play as wing backs with a back 3 of Onuoha, Baptiste and Bidwell?

True. Also Borysuik was supported in midfield by Manning & Chair were the midfield trio. Had Luongo and Freeman been there instead the defence might not have been tested as much.

if they werent interested in Jenkinson because of his wages I doubt they will try for Chambers. Although he would be a good signing if they did.

Yes, and he would be ideal for Championship football. If not too expensive he would be a good signing.

Last post. Ned made error sheff Wednesday resulted in a goal, Lynch made error Norwich resulted in a goal, Caulker made error Brentford resulted in a goal. Both players you would play in front of Ned. Like I said in the other thread they all make mistakes which leads to goals all much a muchness but your fixated with one person failing to see shortcomings of others

Anyway off to play footie think I will be Ned tonight, less the errors
Sorry mate, Lynch let a 3rd man runner run off him against Norwich. Whilst he can bear some responsibility for it he didn't clean swipe and miss his kick like Ned. Or play a blind back pass. Caulker at this moment in time should be irrelevant to this debate, he's on the comeback trail from a mental health issue and played in a league cup match that seemingly doesn't matter? If Caulker is fit and firing, Ned wouldn't even be good enough to lace his boots.

Let's be honest, Perch, Onuoha, Lynch, they're all farking awful and not good enough so let's pretend they are just because we haven't got anyone else. The defence has been short of quality for a few years now. It needs freshening up massively.

Nothing wrong with any of em at championship level. All about getting the best out of them.

Have you seen us defend? Especially last season? Joint 3rd worst goal difference behind Rotherham and Wigan.

Absolute pony the lot of 'em.

You seem to have a massive downer on everything to do with the club atm so probably not much point getting into this but anyway......

There are loads of variables to take into account when judging the 3 players mentioned such as how we defend as team, setup/tactics, form/confidence of player.

There are very few defenders at championship level that don't have stupid mistakes in them. Just watch the goals from any weekend of championship football and you will see loads of preventable goals. It's a #### league despite the hype.

Constantly changing players has already been shown to not work for us. All 3 have shown they can be good enough at this level. We need to coach them and set up properly and get some confidence going through the team.

Still pony mate, they haven't miraculously become good defenders in the summer. We've been OK because the screening from the midfield has been better from Scowen.

We still can't defend when we actually have to.

Sh1t defenders in a sh1t league sounds about right and I'd like us to improve and sign some new ones, simples. The boys at the back now have had long enough to improve.
