but can't you see that we are in the situation we are in because we paid stupid prices trying to do a Bournemouth? the Money that we spend in the premiership years is the reason we are where we are now. We tried to spend stupid money on players that we could never sustain. The likes of Hughes and Warnock , brought recklessly on average players living on their reputations Bournemouth are only spending now..up until this point they have used the bulk of the squad that got them up. Something that wasn't allowed to happen At QPR ..so many on here were demanding we spent big and went for the types of player we ended up signing. We Gambled massively and failed and now are paying the penalty.

We should have given Warnock more time first time round -Even if it meant going down to come back up.

Exactly! who at the time was saying stick with Warnock ..don't sign the goalkeeper from the from the world champions ..don't sign Loic remy? don't sign Samba..Caulker..Mbia...the list is endless..nobody was saying lets stick with smith...Buzacky ..delaney ..kenny ..Ramage..but now that its all gone wrong people are coming out blaming the board for giving them everything they were baying for at the time..maybe this time round they are trying to do it the bournemouth way..and that involves patience on the part of the fans ..something that a lot are clearly not prepared to give.

Who knows were we'll be in 5 years time though? I dont like how crap things feel right now either but i can see were the club wants to get too and how we're gunna get there, by bringing youth players into the team and building them up into first teamers and potentially selling them on, right now we have a few young players that we could sell on for decent money like lumley, furlong and shodipo who we could sell for a million each (low estimates) and manning who coukd easily fetch 4-5m. Not to mention we have players like bowler whos being chased by a few prem clubs.
We've also got guys like eze, comely, petrasso, hammalinen, otah and kakay all working to take the step up. Our academy is a pretty major positive for the future of the club but its not instant, it'll be a good couple of years yet until it truly takes off but we've got one of the best youth coaches in the country in place to oversee and yes, thats chris ramsey.

Onto transfers though, we don't NEED to spend big on players nor should we, we have to be a sustainable club and if we can bring someone in who'll do an equally as good job as a 5m rated player for a tenth of the price then why not? Gary penrice is one of the best bargain basememt scouts in the country and the list of players he had a hand in finding and signing is impressive, mahrez and kante are probably his best finds to put it into perspective and they were plucked from obscurity before becoming two of the best players in the world.

What the club is aiming to achieve in the long term is desirable for everyone involved in the club and we have lee hoos who layed the foundations for how burnley are run business wise is trying to do the same with us. We have the potential to be a successful and profitable club and the avenue the club is taking is the only way to get there and we have the right people in place for it imo, as long as tony takes a backseat. It'll take us years to get there and if this FFP thing pans out well for us it'll be a straight road to get there and maybe ... just maybe, we might make it to the 5th round of the fa cup although thats probably expecting too much!!!

            £10m for Begovic ffs?!

Horrific deal. Whoever sanctioned that needs their head testing.

Even if we were in the Prem right now, Given on a free transfer would be a better deal for us than Begovic for £10 mil.

The days of overspending are over - and thank fook for that.
                      QPR since 1993
                      WATRB since 2015
First QPR game hopefully in 2017

The black and white of our keeper situation is simple.

Even if Given is free he will require wages.
Is he better than Ingram - probably not.
Can Lumley sit on the bench in place of Ingram til needed - of course.

We don't need Given. Would be much better off putting his wages into positions where we actually need them.

About standard for a keeper of begovic quality. Surprised better teams weren't in for him at that price.

Surprised someone in this thread compares him to smithies. I mean, I'm happy with smithies but c'mon...

This is exactly right, everyone was over the moon with most of the deals we did, for both managers and players, but now because they didn't work out, our owners are the biggest bunch of idiots ever to have been in football.

I am actually grateful for what they tried to achieve as it was well-intentioned, and obviously disappointed that it hasn't worked out. However I want them to stick around as believe they can turn things round given time, which as 3london says above is not something people like to do.
