Olly had a lot of success with 4-3-3 and that would have been a decent set up vs Brighton who tend to sit deep rather than press without the ball, was hoping he might have done that beforehand. The back three system is a mess for us because we don't have the quality in key areas.
Agree playing 3 at the back only works if you have proper wingbacks, which is a specialist position really. Furlong, Robinson, Bidwell and Perch definitely do not fall under that category. I wonder if Ollie now realises this too?

I don't like 3 at the back either, never have. And I certainly don't think we have the right squad for it, no natural wing backs at all. But I've made the conscious decision to stop picking holes in Ollie's tactics. It's not his strong point and most of us can see that. What Ollie does is build team spirit and motivate us to perform. As such, I'm not gonna sit here and call out every questionable tactical decision, instead I'm going to appreciate seeing 11 men in blue and white doing all they can to win games of football.......If we're being honest, that is something that has often been missing since our promotion season under Warnock!

So when we were using three at the back on a little run everyone kept pointing we were top of the form table. What's changed from three at back working then to now

Simple mate, top of the form table when playing poor to average sides predominantly. Now we've actually had a run of games against the best in the division and we're finding it much tougher. The truth (in my opinion) is that we are a mid table side at present. Slight improvement from what we were under JFH but we are a few good signings off competing with the best over the course of a season!

I agree with that a very good summary but non the less three at the back worked. In that time worked against Some top end sides like Leeds Reading & Newcastle etc from memory

                True actually mate.

I think at times it has been very effective for us. But at other times, Derby away and Huddersfield at home being great examples it has left us looking vulnerable, whilst also proving very easy to defend against. For me, I'd prefer 4 at the back was our go to, but Ollie clearly likes 3 at the back.

i think he played 3 at the back at Blackpool. Ex. QPR, Ian Evatt, now Chesterfield was their cb.

The question is can the likes of Furlong, Bidwell, Perch and Robinson adapt well enough to the wingback role? The long-term success of the system will depend on that, if Ollie decides to persist with it.

Think Furlong and Robinson when match fit are made for it

The whole point is choosing when to employ a three and when not to. We've kept one or maybe two clean sheets in the league this year, no more, despite a quality GK. That tells its own story.
