The only player I can remember us getting in the transfer window when we were in the prem was Zarate on loan, and i doubt we spent that much for him.

the star claims that this is net spend during 'financial year 2015', which means the 2014-15 season as a whole. we bought the following that season: caulker, sandro, mutch, fer, mccarthy and robinson and zarate on a loan. in addition, we sold mutch and samba.
the combined total transfer fees spent were £38.782m. we (surprisingly) appear to have received £16.022m in transfer fees. so the net position is £22.760m outlay, not the £34m the star claims.
one thing that's interesting that i'd not noticed before is that there is an impairment charge for £11.663m - what this means in layman's terms is that the club decided that the squad that we had at the end of that season (or at least part of it) were not worth what we'd paid for them - to put the charge in context, that was about 37% of the squad's previous book value, a genuinely astounding figure.

you're right... samba was a year earlier. i'd trust the audited financial accounts over wikipedia any day of the week, so somewhere along the way, we paid nearly £7m more for those 6 incoming players that needed a fee (genuinely no idea who, or how, though).Originally posted by jmelanie View PostComment
