Hasselbaink said: “It finished 6-0 but it could have been more.

“We were very poor. They were very good. They made us look a very poor side.

“We were too open, too stretched. It wasn’t us tonight and that’s not acceptable.

“My players gave me effort. They tried. But Newcastle were too good.

“We wanted to give a better display, of course we did.

“This defeat hurts us all. We are all really hurt tonight.

“I'm not going to make excuses. We couldn't get close to them.”

Hasselbaink sent a message to the QPR fans, adding: “I want to say sorry to the fans. We let them down tonight. We are hurting like they are.

“After a defeat like that it's important we stick together. We have to respond now.

“We win together. We lose together. Tonight wasn't acceptable but we have to stick together. We have to stand up as men now. And move forward.

“We have to pick ourselves up on Saturday. We have to put it right.”

The R’s gaffer gave a brief update on James Perch’s injury, sustained in the 18th minute, commenting: “It doesn't look good for James.

“It looks like a bad knee injury, but we will have to wait and see over the coming days.”

We all know the #### will do the same old shite on Saturday regardless of the drivel that comes out of his mouth.
