  • Is Nedum in the team simply because he is our chosen captain

Ok nedum onouha is the choice as captain maybe partly due to being one of our longer serving players.

Was at the game at Cardiff and despite being very impressed by the performance etc, not exactly sure whether going forward this season whether Nedum should be first choice right back.

I would have thought Perch would have been a better option there.

Not got anything Nedum and think his place currently should be perhaps more as a squad player or warming the bench.

He definitely obviously more comfortable in the centre but absolutely with Caulker and Hall currently in those positions and as things stand this seems to have promise.

I thought on Sunday Ned was out of position a few times and a more ruthless team could have exposed this as a weakness in our team.

Appreciate he is captain but I can't help thinking that him being captain is enabling him to be in the team - albeit out of position - but going forward well would have concerns if JFH thinks this is fine.

We not got furlong, perch rumoured to go, am sure that the gentleman in charge should be looking for at least one specialist right back with experience at this level preferrably, not heard any transfer rumours re new right back though, but can't believe I am alone in thinking this should be a strong priority in next couple weeks, otherwise would be disappointed to lose Perch - think he is reasonable anyhow.

Think we have history with this anyhow - re Danny Simpson.

    Right back please Jimmy !!!!

I cant see JFH leaving Ned out though and starting to wonder if Jimmy does plan to keep him at RB all season.
Theres gonna be 1 player unhappy this season that's for sure.
Caulker playing great so far, Hall and Ned won't be dropped but there's also Lynch to consider as well, who I think was signed as someone to be a starter.

Lynch can play at LB though.
I think the problem with selection for Jimmy will be if Caulker continues to play well.

I've been saying the same thing for ages. Agree with everything the OP says, and made exactly the same point on another thread:

It's a very important position that needs a specialist playing there IMO, especially with the system we adopt.

Why play a makeshift RB there when we have a specialist RB on the bench, if it's not because he's captain? It certainly appears a flawed approach on the surface.

Totally agree with the op, I have constantly been saying he isn't up to the job as he is far to uncomfortable in possession, just because we're winning doesn't mean we can't look to strengthen. Being captain is most definitely why he's starting and that is nowhere near enough reason for me.
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

Really had the hump with him in previous seasons, but this season so far hes been exceptional and has made the team of the week (as has Caulker).
i feel this thread and comments are really harsh.
Please can we at least wait till an opposition team gets a goal, or maybe even a shot on target before we hound out our captain.
Id rather we went back to coating Washington (only because hes not playing), cos this thread seems really poor form to me considering our start.

Think he has made a very decent start to the season so far to be fair and although he can be a bit clumsy to say the least I would have him as one of my first choice players on the teamsheet

Its his experience which is of value with all the kids in the team. He will never be a Kyle Walker bombing down the wing but like the stats say he is doing the work off the ball to get the high stats. Ask nasser

You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

Have never been a fan of Ned at RB and agree i would have gone with Perch over him. Saying that, i think he has done well in the two games so far and not someone i would look at replacing. He got exposed against Leeds because Gladwin didn't track back and thought the same happened at cardiff really.

Wait till Nas get a hold of this thread

Has made a great start to the season as have all the boys! Would have him at RB ahead of Perch personally.

Team selection is all about compromises and things we don't know about, so we have to accept JFH knows what he's doing, in that we're doing alright so far.

He's not a RB. We need a RB. I'd keep him there while things are going OK, however.

Been superb so far this season - strong, fast, surging runs, scored our first goal v Leeds plus an assist already, what's not to like? Some people just seem to be down on him for reasons I find odd. As RIG said, Gladwin exposed him a few times when at RM, apart from that, great player. Personally, always been a fan. Perch is a great alternative to have at RB if needed, but is being played (successfully) as a utility player this season.

Personally i think hes done well in the first two games, defo a better header of the ball and ofers better options going forward esp with corners etc. Rb isnt his perfered position and doubt very much hes gonna get a look in at cb unless there afew injurys
