  • QPR vs Carlisle Betting Preview

Following the moving Loftus Road tribute to club legend Stan Bowles on Saturday (#StanBowlesDay), attention moves to a league cup tie at home to Carlisle.

While Carlisle currently sit mid-table in league 2, and expectation is that QPR will be able to roll them over comfortably, a lot will depend on the quality of the team Ramsey puts out and what level of importance he places on the competition.

The league cup is often maligned as being the poor cousin of other competitions, but beating teams and scoring goals can breed confidence amongst a squad. Of course there are bigger challenges than Yeovil and Carlisle to overcome this season, but having been starved of cup runs in recent years it will be great to see real effort put into a competition where a favourable draw can see you at Wembley before you know it.

In theory a gulf in class should be apparent in the match, Carlisle and QPR haven’t shared the same league for some time, but they faced up in the cups on occasion. The R’s picked up wins in the last 3 meetings, all in the League Cup (or Coca Cola Cup and Carling Cup as they were for league cup affectionados).

Emmanuel Ledesma scored a hat-trick last time QPR met Carlisle at Loftus Road back in 2008, and a similar stack of goals will be expected in this match as well. Of course QPR haven’t struggled with scoring this season, but with 20 goals in their 5 matches so far there are as many problems at the back as there things to celebrate up front. All this should mean we can write off the 0-0 if nothing else.

The tips appearing in the programme tomorrow will be

    QPR to win 1.42
QPR half time / full time 2.1
    Over 2.5 goals 1.67
