  • Reports that we are about to bid for Southend keeper Dan Bentley (video)

    Video at bottom of page.

Looks very good, would prefer him to a Jussi Jaaskelainen type of signing. And I've seen more from him on this highlight clip that I ever saw from McCarthy.

Looks like a very good shot stopper and kills the pace of the ball well with his hands but no footage of him commanding his area. We could coach him that over the next 12 months which is when Greens contract expires.

Nice spot, I was watching a clip of MCCarthy and thought the same regarding soft hands.
      Kept the faith!

Never seen him play personally but he has rave reviews. Only just turned 22, already played 98 league games for Southend, kept 12 home clean sheets in a row last season, won all 3 of their POTYs and got in the League 2 TOTY so sounds like a bl00dy good keeper to me.

I don't expect Southend to let him go easily, but IF we go manage to pry him away for less than we sold McCarthy for then sounds like some blinding business.

        Fingers crossed.

Would be a better option as backup than Jaaslelainen if reports are to be believed.

Now that would be a great signing, just as long as he is happy to play understudy to Green for a year.

You never know, it might even stop a few people on here from whinging for 5 minutes!

Like I said, if we are going to buy lower league players, make sure they are the best ones.
This is a good move. Much better than signing the 40yo Virgin.

Saw him play against Wycombe in league 2 play off final... Was a good shot stopper but lacked a bit of physical presence i thought.
Would be a good number 2

Loan him back to Southend or wait until a championship club needs a keeper and loan him out then, I think it would be great business a buy like this, it would show a plan has been formulated.

Like Luongo, who got in the League 1 TOTY?

Yet when we signed Luongo and Gladwin, who did very well for Swindon in league 1 (better than league 2), we were "shopping in Primark"?
