  • Toulon tournament - England U20s

    Anyone been watching the tournament?

England are just about to kick off on BT sport 1 against mexico. Hopefully we have scouts out there as there are some highly rated players; Demarai gray, chuba akpom, matt grimes etc.

Chuba Akpom and Serg Garnby will definitely be offered out to championship clubs this coming season (loan)

England lost 2-1. Comfortable in the 1st half and led 1-0 through Watmore (sunderland). Mexico came back in the 2nd half and england were disappointing. Players that looked promising were; grimes CM (swansea) looks really promising, great left foot. Swift CAM (chelsea) nice dribbling and found space well, Akpom ST (arsenal) played the lone striker role and did ok, quick, strong and links up with midfield well.

Akpom has a lot of potential, I saw him play a few times for Arsenal and he looked very sharp. Went to Forest for a couple of months but surprisingly didn't score.

Wern't even Mexico's strongest U20 as I am sure they are currently playing in the U20 world up at the moment also in New Zealand?

French should walk it, great youngsters. IMO the French will be a major force again. Fancy them to win the Euro's next summer.

I think the Mexicans had their U23 squad like a few other countries; costa rica and usa.

Didnt realise Matty Grimes (who captained England) was named in league 2 team of the year even though swansea bought him off exeter in january so only really spent half a season in league 2. He was the standout player for England in central midfield

To be honest, we should have players on our radar before tournaments like this. The big clubs either own the players already or they'll come in for any half decent...

England kick off their last group game against China at 6pm on BTsport 1, if anyones interested in watching. Unfortunately they can only qualify for 3rd/4th place playoff after losing to Mexico

Same sort of level as the senior team then.

There was a time in the 80s & 90s when QPR youngsters featured for England U21s & U20s, not anymore though.

really impressed with this Jon Swift kid in the 3rd place playoff so far. Great dribbling and acceleration. He was on loan from chelsea to Swindon last season (another swindon player) and will certainly find playing time hard at Chelsea. Could be worth a punt but they would probably want silly money
