  • Rio Ferdinand to retire from football at the end of the season

Former England captain Rio Ferdinand has announced that he plans to retire from football at the end of the season.

The 35-year-old centre-back, who cost Manchester United £30million when joining from Leeds United in 2002, has told The Jonathan Ross Show that this season with Queens Park Rangers will likely be his last.

Hopefully he won't feature much more this season as he looks finished already.

Can't believe anyone thought he would do a good job for us. It's now obvious why he didn't get many games last season.
Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.

But we did not sign him on 40 k per week for his ability!

We signed him because he was outstanding on match of the day during the world cup.
We signed him because he is the first in at training.
We signed him because he is Harrys mate.

            Top top player! #triffic

Thought he was just what we were after before the season started but he's been huge letdown. If he stays until end of season hope he ups his game considerably. After what was in my view a good debut its been downhill since then

Just had an insider on Talksport saying he actually said he's off in January BUT somebody made him film it again saying end of the season .............
"Steve, do you think 25k is a good option when there are indications that within four years, new stadiums on average have increased attendances of 60%?
For us that would mean around 29k."
