  • Questions from a Spurs Supporter

Greetings all. Really wonderful forum you have. The reason for starting the thread is that I was hoping some of you might be willing to answer a couple of questions ahead of the match with Spurs at the weekend. We (shelfsidespurs.com) run a similar feature to many other forums that involves gathering the view of the opposition before the upcoming match.

Thanks in advance for any responses you're willing to provide and good luck this upcoming season! Really hope to see you guys stay up and cement a presence in the PL moving forward. (I hope this is posted in the proper place and I do apologize if it's not.)

Remaining in the league is almost always considered a success for newly promoted clubs. In your estimation does that hold true for QPR this year? What are your expectations for the upcoming season?

How are things going with Harry? What are your feelings regarding him as a manager?? What about this 3-5-2 formation that he seems to be working in??

What are your thoughts on Hoddle's appointment? Do you think he is being groomed as Harry's eventual replacement??

Who will turn out to be your most important player this season? What about the most important new signing? And would you rather keep Taarabt or get Kranjčar back??

Where do you see QPR finishing this season? What about Spurs??

If you could take one Spurs player to QPR who would it be? Why?

Finally, how do you expect QPR to line up this weekend? What is your predicted result??

Thank you for allowing me to post. Looking forward to a great match this weekend!

          To stay up.

Still not convinced with Harry and rather a different formation to 352

          Hoddle good apointment.

Remy will be most important player and Adel over Kranjcar all day every day.

See us finishing 16th spurs finishing 7th

Would take your goalkeeper as one of the best in the business and a million times better than ours.

Expect a 3-0 win for you Sunday.

How are things going with Harry? He got us promoted, can't ask for more. What are your feelings regarding him as a manager?? Not sure, this season will tell us all we need to know. What about this 3-5-2 formation that he seems to be working in?? Very early to say but appeared to be working well last game and with new players such as Isla may turn out to suit us well.

What are your thoughts on Hoddle's appointment? Very excited, think he'll be s big influence. Do you think he is being groomed as Harry's eventual replacement?? Personally I don't, he's been a long time away from management, but I could be wrong...

Who will turn out to be your most important player this season? If we can hold on to him, Remy (Hands off!) What about the most important new signing? I have high hopes for Fer if he arrives. And would you rather keep Taarabt or get Kranjčar back?? If Hoddle can work with Taarabt I would rather keep him

Where do you see QPR finishing this season? 12-16th What about Spurs?? 6th or 7th

If you could take one Spurs player to QPR who would it be? Townsend Why? Did really well on his loan spell here, and he seemed to like it. Could do very well again.

Finally, how do you expect QPR to line up this weekend? Same as last game, but with Isla replacing Simpson What is your predicted result?? 1-1

Thank you for allowing me to post. Looking forward to a great match this weekend!

With team we are building would be disappointed if we went back down. Very different to our last foray in Premiership.

'Arry has a lot to prove as very much in my view flopped in trying to keep us up first season after we got half a sniff at one stage of getting us out of trouble. Much if last season we were bland, poor going forwards and still not sure how we quite managed to go up! That said triffic change in personnel and like the way team shaping up for this season.

Hoddle could be a big influence. Thought when INGERLAND manager we played best football in my years of watching the national team. Mixed at club level but as a coach could be fantastic if he stays.

Like the idea of 3-5-2 and saw some promise in it but only one game in so who knows.

Agree Remy most important player if he stays. A class above and should be playing for one of the big boys. In terms of new signings way too early to tell but I'd say Ferdinand for the experience he brings and possibly organising the back.

Not overly fussed on either Kranjcar or Taarabt. Latter is younger but doesn't want to be here and has flopped at this level. Former just didn't look fit for much of last season but has pedigree at this level and only 30 so if he can get fit could do well. On balance probably Kranjcar. You can have Adel back for a bag of nuts.

If we keep Remy I could see us 13th-15th realistically. Spurs 5th-7th.

Would probably take your goalie but happy enough with Rob Green.

I'm expecting Isla for Simpson, possibly The Chief for Dunne although I thought Dunne did well against Hull. Might be too early for Fer if he does eventually sign.

Hate to say it but think home win but should be close so 2-1 Spurs.

Ask the writer on this site, he does the exact same feature for opposition teams:

Remaining in the league is almost always considered a success for newly promoted clubs. In your estimation does that hold true for QPR this year? What are your expectations for the upcoming season?

Yep, 17th would be a success. I know Caulker, Isla, Ferdinand and Mutch could fit in at a comfortable mid-table side. And our on paper lineup - especially if we keep Remy and sign Fer and Vargas - is probably 10th or so best in the league. But that masks the fact we're a pretty poor side on grass, and got through last season largely through having the best individuals rather than through any particular teamwork. Building that almost from scratch and integrating a load of new signings will be tough, and I'm not entirely sure Harry is a good enough coach to pull it off (where Hoddle comes in...).

A lot of fans are getting caught up in the excitement of the new signings. "If we sign Fer and keep Remy we'll finish in the top10!", that sort of thing. But we've been here before... I think a lot of threads from that time have been deleted, but see for eg http://www.wearetherangersboys.com/f...eam-for-Europe

                    I predict 15th.

How are things going with Harry? What are your feelings regarding him as a manager?? What about this 3-5-2 formation that he seems to be working in??

I posted this while Mark Hughes was still manager http://www.wearetherangersboys.com/f...e-SWP-Park-etc and my feelings haven't changed a great deal. Still don't really warm to him. He was lucky to get us up last season via a last minute winner in the play-offs. Had the Derby defence cleared that ball properly and gone on to win the match QPR fans would have spent the summer moaning about Harry failing to get us up automatically with the league's biggest budget (by far) and wondering why we had zero team spirit or tactical plan between November and April.

That said, I have been very impressed with the transfer dealings this summer. I expected a load of has-been mates of Arry's and instead we have largely signed excellent players at the right age. Can he integrate them into a proper team? Jury is still out. I have no problem with 352 in theory, but it only seems to suit a few in our squad.

What are your thoughts on Hoddle's appointment? Do you think he is being groomed as Harry's eventual replacement??

Good news, as I think it's clear Harry, Jordan and Bond aren't really cut out at the top level tactically. The amount of times last season we had to rejig entirely at half-time after picking a weird or just plain wrong starting XI was shocking. If he's as good a coach as he's reputed to be (and I'm still not entirely sure where this idea that he's a superb coach comes from) Hoddle might just be a more important signing than any of our players.

Who will turn out to be your most important player this season? What about the most important new signing? And would you rather keep Taarabt or get Kranjčar back??

Could be Ferdinand if he keeps fit and we stick to the 352. If Remy stays his goals will be crucial. He's far too good for a side battling relegation.

Niko isn't fit to lace Adel's boots. He was really underwhelming last season after a bright start. Taarabt is fantastic, weirdly underrated by our bitter supporters who would rather watch some badge kissing englishman run around after lost causes and shout at people. He doesn't get on with HR though and looks set to leave. A shame.

Where do you see QPR finishing this season? What about Spurs??

16th / 6th (basically somewhere in the United/Everton/Spurs group chasing the top4. No, none of you will leapfrog Liverpool)

If you could take one Spurs player to QPR who would it be? Why?

Ideally, Ericson or maybe Vertonghen who would make an ideal left CB in a back three - a position we don't really have an obvious player for aside from the ancient Clint Hill.

                    Realistically (sort of)... Sandro, Capoue

Anyone but the overrated Townsend. He's very popular here as he was a rare bright spark in our relegation season, but if you get £10m off us for him you will be laughing all the way to the bank. The guy has zero football intelligence or end product.

Finally, how do you expect QPR to line up this weekend? What is your predicted result??

Same lineup as last weekend, unless Onuoha comes in against quicker opposition. Fer would most likely replace Faurlin if he goes straight into the side, though I'd like to see Mutch drop out instead (simply as it's an away game against a top side).

                    3-1 to spurs

survival with points to spare would be a success for us. Hoddle excellent appointment, Townsend would be a cracking acquisition for us. More hope than expectation, 1-1 for Saturday
I must away now, I can no longer tarry
This morning's tempest I have to cross

How are things going with Harry? What are your feelings regarding him as a manager?? What about this 3-5-2 formation that he seems to be working in?? - Risky formation. Need specialist players to execute this formation but I belive we are v v close to having who we need. Having Glen Hoddle on board will be a big plus regarding this.

What are your thoughts on Hoddle's appointment? Do you think he is being groomed as Harry's eventual replacement?? - Possibly but probably not. Brought in to fine tune the 3-5-2

Who will turn out to be your most important player this season? What about the most important new signing? And would you rather keep Taarabt or get Kranjčar back?? - Most important player will be Remy if we can keep him no doubt. Goals is what will keep us up.

Where do you see QPR finishing this season? What about Spurs?? - QPR (14th) Spurs (4th)

If you could take one Spurs player to QPR who would it be? Why? - Erik Lamela. I think he'll be a big player for Spyrs this season.

                            Staying up is a success.
                            Harry done an excellent job
Excited about 3-5-2 as plays to our strengths IMO
Hoddle excellent appointment and could well replace Harry eventually
If he stays Remy is hugely important but I'd put Barton alongside importance in terms of the spirit and leadership etc
                            QPR 11th Spurs 6th
One player would be Dembele, class player
Finally, won't be easy game but if both teams play how they did opening weekend we will nick a 2-1 win
