  • Beware of the fourth!

In the 18 years that the play-offs have been in operation,

The team finishing fourth has only won it once!!!!

3rd has won it 7 times
    5th """"""""""""6 times
    6th """"""""""""4 times.

Quirky or significant? Stats can be spooky....

Not sure it makes any difference where we finish up to be honest. Its a complete lottery.
I would like to get 3rd place though so the home leg is the 2nd game.

I never realized that. That's good then. Could make the difference that.

Third plays Sixth. Third at home second leg.
Fourth plays Fifth. Fourth at home second leg.

I want fourth as I will miss the second leg if we finish third. Also. Law of averages says it's time fourth place won it again!

Does the away goal rule stand in play offs?

I'm about 95% sure that the away goals rule is not used in the promotion play-offs.

They don't count. It is extra time then pens. All the better to have that going on at home if necessary although I am not sure my nerves would take a penalty shoot out!!

May the fourth be with us!

                              Getting exciting now
I don't think it matters where we finish, if we can't beat any of the teams around us in such big matches then little point going up in any event.
A playoff also appears to galvanise a club that automatic doesn't appear to do as much, going to massive....
