So we should get players in based on past glories? Yes, that worked well last year

He's trained 3 times the entire pre season, been poor for 2 seasons, and doesnt seem to want to play for us. And yet people think he will magically recapture his old form?

        • A number of things got us promoted.

Yes Adel was a major part of this 50% some would say.

          The other MAJOR factors.

          1. Good manager
          2. Good team spirit.
          3. Vital goals throughout the squad. (Ephraim at Donny, Miller against the Foxes, Routledge against Cov)
          4. The league was a little easier then IMO.

Not to mention all of Helguson's and Mackie's goals.

Your sporadic shouting of words scares me a little.

Disagree. Getting promoted was a team effort. Adel was surrounded by some very good pros, some of them pretty good in their own right technically, and managed by a manager who knew the division inside out. This meant they compensated for his various shortcomings and allowed him to continually showboat in between standing around while the others put in massive shifts to compensate for the fact that when Adel wasn't showboating it was like being with 10 men much of the time.

Adel gave us some amazing standalone moments but he was far from the sole reason we went up. Time for him to move on. He has been found out in the Premiership and is now part of a team that is much stronger and it would be a mistake to build a team at this level around him. We simply don't need to. We have the squad that can play as a team and in theory be better than any team in that division and continue into the Premiership with some further adjustment.

The most frustrating thing for me personally is that for a spell after Hughes came in Adel started to play like an adult, tackling back, being more part of the team and I saw a glimpse of what he could be. Unfortunately that was a false dawn and he was more of a liability than anything else for the majority of last season.

I still smile at some of the things he has done in matches in the past but longing for similar moments is like trying to paint over the cracks. He is a flawed genius and for me those flaws are too many for the QPR of today. We are very different from two/three years ago.

Looking back it was definitely an easier league to get out of that season.

Mackie's at Derby, HH at Palace were both big goals too.

However, Taarabt was still the main reason. He turned 1 point into 3 so often for us that season. We can't forget how important he was to us. Fact is that he's not the same player now for one reason or another and is best off somewhere else.

Shame as if he'd had his head straight he could have gone on to be a legendary number 10 for us.

Back in the day ,defenders would kick chunks out of you given half a chance ,and usualy did ,

Im sure players like stan, Rodney and the other greats would more than hold their own in todays "protected non contact sport"
and today’s game is played at a lot faster pace, more strategic and a heavier emphasis on technique. For example it is no longer enough for a fullback to just be a defender like it was in the old days, they now have to offer something going forward as well.........which is why i used to dread Nedum playing RB.
