  • Mackie

He was his usual non threatening/non creative lose the ball self but in games like today he has a role. He is not there to create chances or for an attacking threat. He is there simply cause of his effort and the need to get a point out of a tough game. He did that well. What grates me is that 3 or 4 times he had the chance to go past the full back and everytime he ran into him and lost it. Nowhere near good enough as a winger or starter. Ran his socks off as usual but was barely in the game. Compare to SWP on the other side who roasted Kyle Walker at least twice and had our best chances to get a goal.

Basically he is really good......until he actually gets the ball. Then he either loses it or runs into someone and loses it. He creates nothing. That is okay in games like today as his role is all about graft. In future games against lesser teams though we will see more of the ball. We need to create chances when we have it and he is not good enough to do that. Even the Mackie lovers cannot disagree he never beats a full back or puts a good ball in. Bench him and bring him on as an impact sub in the games we need to win.

Not new found respect. Always been an SWP fan. A fair few on here give him plenty though. My point was to highlight they both put in a good shift, but look at the difference attacking wise between the two.

        Spot on.

He is totally ineffectual imo. Add to the waste in posession that he also gives away countless stupid fouls in dangerous areas and becomes a liability. He is also unbelievably greedy for a player with so little talent.... almost as bad as Taarabt for not passing when there's aetter option. Yes he runs a lot, but we need ability with that.

mackie in truth is a very average player whose spirit and hard work along with the odd goal glosses over his technical abilities but has still out preformed over paid "big names". why??? if our big names were so talented then our subs would be subs.

Boring. People actually want him to fail now a days which is a real shame. People have got to realise that British blood is very helpful in our situation but it seems people expect too much
            Under Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
            And many more mistakes

              Wrong.

Imo he repeatedly fails, yet still plays. If he is to continue to play, i want him to succeed, not fail. If i had my choice he wouldn't play.

True to a point, however his role is to press forward get in the faces of the backfour and to stop his opposite number going forward and to drop and provide cover. He may even be more effective if a certain selfish too many oversteps player let the ball go early on a break.

That is why given the limited deselection HR picks him and a rustle of his hair during the first half and doing what you said he can only do. Hi is not a winger but that is where HR asks him to play and do a role. This he gets 10/10 for.

That he does without moaning so give him a break, he has his limitations but does whats asked and that is more than our other over paid moaners.

He could have scored from Fabio's pass, but didn't make a right move behind the back.
He's basically good when we do nothing but defend. Like yesterday. But he's not as good as last spring. Started too many games, perhaps?

Kind of agree but without his chasing back and passion we would probably be worse off as who else is going to donkey work also by what your saying how would he be a good impact sub coz you have said he runs into people and doesn't beat anyone so why would that change. If you look on the work rate stats he is always in the top2

Mackie's a grafter and will work all day long but is definitely not a Premiership player.

One of the reasons why we're not scoring goals is because we don't have quality down the flanks. Mackie creates nothing, SWP's final ball is usually wayward and Hoilett's been sitting on the bench most of the season.

We need somebody with pace and creativity.

And your missing the final ingredient we don't have a decent striker to put the ball away even if the crosses did come in

                            Can't believe this thread!

Mackie gives 100% every game and works hard. Ok he's not the most skillful of players granted but you can't fault his effort, and he does make things happen.

                            Give me 11 Mackies anytime!

Also he only cost us £500k!!! we could sell him on for a profit no problem, exactly how many of Mark Hughes buys could we make money on? non is the answer. He was a very shewd buy from our friend Mr Warnock :-)

Mackie is limited in his technical ability. We all know that. However, he did a good enough job yesterday in my book. Mackies job is to hustle players, close down space and he does this well. He makes it hard for the opposition to play and with the way he presses defenders where others would give up plus it always gives you the chance of a defender slipping up under pressure. Who else would you of played on the right yesterday? Hoilett wasn't available and so far has been quite poor. Park is no way an option as an attacking player. who else would you of played there? Redknapp went with what we have and he knew Mackie would give his all for 90 minutes no question asked.
I was more than happy with Mackie yesterday. Best option we have until we can sign someone better. Plus he is capable of the odd bit of magic where he turns a defender or uses abit of skill to skip past a player and has the odd goal in him.

What is the point at having a moan about Mackie? lol there is no need, honestly.
