Worst game of the season for him, too. Did he touch the ball?

Story of his season. Yes, he runs around like a headless chicken, but endeavour only gets you so far in matches. You need some quality. He has no quality.
First game: Arsenal vs Queen's Park Rangers at Highbury, Saturday 17th November 1984.

Hang on Dave, yes he is not the best but if the team all had his attitude and run for every lost cause you create Chance's and chance's create goals, you play football don't you?
Why do you always have a pop about him?

I know he's untouchable for a lot here. But two goals so far this season. Even haircut has double as much.

Sadly mate, he's sh1t. He's not the worst. But ability wise, he has none. Sad state of affairs. Some fans love him because he runs around. I would like to see him score goals and create chances. He does neither.

He is not the best but does to put the graft, Some of our so called more talented players or higher profile players cant even be bothered to try. I am not Mackie's biggest fan but he does show up what is wrong at our club and with most of the new signings.

                So is he's role
                1) score goals
                2) create chances or
                3) run around?

His role is to contribute to the team with goals, assists and work rate. He is no Messi or Ronaldo but he has a go and after yesterday how many more could you say that about?

Well, truth is he hasn't contributed a lot with goals or assists. Is just the work rate enough at this level?

Exactly this. If we had a team of Mackies we would not be bottom of the table. But oh so may of our fans think we are entitled to have a team full of Messi/Ronaldo types. He's not untouchable and certainly isn't exempt from criticism - and agreed he is not the most talented footballer in the PL - but he is a lot better than plenty other PL players and would be an asset to a Stoke, Norwich type team because players around him would have similar industry and they all seem to create and take chances by playing as a tight/hard working unit.

I reckon we should have a sticky thread just for Mackie as I swear this exact conversation / debate is had twice weekly on here these days.
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

He had a very good spell April-May, but has totally lost it. You may be right that he's not suitable for our current players around him. We'll see within a couple of weeks what happens with that.

It's sad how people single out Mackie when he's one of the few out there actually playing for the hoops. What's he meant to do when he's stuck alongside the rubbish we have in the team this year?
