  • Steven Caulker

When we signed Steven Caulker I expected too see an agressive ball winning CB capable of dominating and bullying opposing strikers like The Landlord does when played.

He was made bardiff captain last year but from his performances so far I been a little underwhelmed..Ferdinand and Caulker always seem too far apart when played together and don't seem to complement each other as none of them are agressive enough in the tackle for me.

What's our best CB partnership ?

    Depends what formation we're playing.
Soldier: "im on reconnaissance sir.. im looking for our camouflage expert.. have you seen him?"
    Lovejoy: "No?!"
Soldier: "GOD DAMNIT THAT GUYS GOOD!"

I thought he would be a lot better especially alongside Rio, but in all fairness he's looked very poor. That said and OG aside, I thought he had a good game Saturday, 1 of his best since he's been here. Maybe he wasn't so starry eyed alongside Dunne...

Still think he's got loads of potential and could be very important for us now and in the future.

IF in January we could get a natural RB I'd like a Caulker...Ned CB partnership. If not then Caulker...Dunne/Hill CB partnership with Ned as RB
      SIR LESLIE FERDINAND!!

Can't really see the best of any CB pairing until it has been consistently played week in, week out.

Best pairing for me is Onuha / Caulker.....by a country mile.

Just to pick up on that bold point first mincer, that is part of the tactic to change from a back 4 to a back 3 when the team is on top.

The 2 full backs push forward to provide extra width. The center backs split so they are between their usual center position and the full back position. Then the dedicated defensive midfielder (let's say Sandro) drops back 10 yards into the gap and it effectively becomes a back 3.

In theory it is a great idea. But in practice it still leaves center backs defending out wide instead of staying centrally.

He looks out of his depth does Caulker which is strange for someone who was being watched by the top teams in the premier league last year.

If only Dunne was 5 years younger. Might not be the best at distributing the ball but knows the art of defending

and scoring some beauties. Tbh he had a decent game and is a damn site more commanding than caulker and Ferdinand who just seem like 2 nice men playing fairly.

Nedum and dunner would be my pairing. Showed in the playoff final that they're streets ahead of these 2 wannabe gangsters
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

Personally think Onuha is the best defender at the club by far and if we lose him in January because we are insistent on pairing Caulker with someone other than him, then that is criminal.

Isla and Yunn looked good going forward, which suggests to me we will revert to 3-5-2 so room for rio, caulker and ned. personally think we need another centre back in jan as rio, dunne and clint must have over 100 years between them.

You make a very interesting point Dio84 regarding why Caulker and Ferdinand have played so far apart..it makes it so important which player is picked to play that holding role to stop teams breaking on us with pace...I said this before but if there's no place for Nedum in defence why not play him in that role instead ?

Who would Arrys first choice be in that role if fit ?

Caulker is not out of his depth as he proved last season with Cardiff.

However, Ferdinand has been worse than his brother and this has shaken Caulker's confidence.

Playing alongside Dunne Onuoha and Hill would be better for Caulker.

In hindsight its a shame we didn't go for Dawson instead of Rio.
