How can you possibly know that it's impossible to adapt his game so he plays as a full back?
I don't, Ginge. I hope he can prove me wrong. But his positional sense in a back four looks just so awful. Playing there clearly unsettles him, As far as I can tell he has never played right back. Why not make use of him in the position he plays?
I still can't get over a professional premier league football team getting in a foreign player who's never played in this league and selling the one other player who plays that position, one who is more than good enough and has loads of experience in the league and position.

This - it does not help Isla making the transition to play him out of position.
Carrick never adapted last year to play as a centerback - wasn't bad but better in other position.
Ned is another example, can play RB but plays another position better
Although some just settle in instantly, many players arriving to play in a new country usually need time to adapt.
Not only is Isla adapting to the pace of the game in England he also has to adapt to the lifestyle (with or without his family). If that isn't enough, he is also being asked to play in a slightly different position i.e. right back instead of wing back.
He needs time to adapt, which is why I was a bit concerned about Simpson being sold. At least QPR have Onuoha who can play at RB, if Isla is dropped or moved to play RM.
Adapt? He was signed as a wing back. Play him as a wing back. We've got five CB, so playing three of Caulker, the Chief, Clint or the Landlord with two reliable and solid defensive midfielders in from of them ought not be a problem. If Anton turns back into Rio then he can be considered too.
I think the 3-5-2 thing works well at home on our tight pitch but away from home it would need more work cos of the bigger pitches and having more ground to cover

From all I've seen he needs to adapt to being a wing-back too!

You might be right. Was very poor in the 45 minutes he played there at Spurs. He then disappeared completely, second half, when put on the right of midfield. Sigh.
