  • Austin In The Prem .....What do we think

    Before we start ......

I love Charlie Boy to bits ....works his socks off .....can hold the ball up and can finish . Last year we would have been proper foooked without him .

How do you think he will fair next year up against the alleged best of the best ??

At the moment he is not proven in the Prem ..... I know we all love him coz he's ours but .....is he any different to say McCormack /Deeney/ Leicesters new fella from Brighton ??

I know which one I would want ....Charlie all day long .....but I still think I'd like to see a proven Premiere League goalscorer within the staring 11 alongside him ( like a darren Bent ....but not Darren Bent if you know what I mean !)

Agree with you mate. I think he will get at least 7 or 8 for us though.

Think he will have a similar season to Lambert did when he came up but obviously a much younger model . A finisher is a finisher and I don't see any reason why Chaz can't get double figures and give Roy something to think about

All depends on what sort of service he will get though. He would easily have got 30 last season if the service from the midfield had been a little better. And in the Premier League it'll be tougher to get those balls into him to hurt defences.

Huge step up but I think he has all the attributes to succeed in the PL. He is strong as an Ox & has an eye for goal, similar traits to Ricky Lambert who took to the PL like a duck to water. Think Austin now is a better player than Lambert was when he was starting out in the PL so who knows how good Austin could be.
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

Younger too, Lambert was 31 (i think) when Southampton got promoted.

At £4m he hands down beats "McCormack /Deeney/ Leicesters new fella from Brighton".

If he reaches double figures it'll be a good first season in the Prem for him and that sort of target should be within his grasp.

Exactly my thoughts when I first read this thread.....IMO it all depends on whether we play this 352, as he'll have less service as it's a much more defensive set up. IMO I still think 4.4.2 is the best formation, especially if we can get someone like Andros in who can whip a decent ball in.
                SIR LESLIE FERDINAND!!

Best he could hope to achieve is a Rickie Lambert standard, same-ish player.

I think he will do very well up front, I only pray Rio does as well defending as Charlie does scoring.
Banning people is no longer my hobby,
but take a look at my photo blog:

Will struggle, Charlie has a poor first touch, could be exposed

Certainly can't play up top on his own as today showed, maybe in the championship but not the prem. Fear if our tactics aren't right he could struggle.

depends how we settle with this new formation. Hopefully he scores in one of our 1st games of the season and kicks on from there
